You do realise for us to give him a free transfer we’d be obliged to pay the remainder of his contract?

He may as well stay here and play if and when needed

His attitude still appears to be professional unlike Abdi so we may as well have him around the squad. We will need him when injuries start

Not if it was a transfer to another club who would then pay his wages.

Then we wouldn't have to pay the rest of his contract

He stopped being good when he went to Boro, he has always played at his best under an English manager in a 442 set up, even at Boro he managed 1 in 4 if my memory serves.

Coco went on record saying he was getting him to change his game and that was a massive mistake, Rhodes is a one trick pony, what he does he does fantastically well.

Sadly its just not worked for him here and its a crying shame because he is the best at what he does but what he does doesn't fit in to our system.

He was 1 in 3 for Boro in the Championship, and a third of those appearances were off the bench. He barely got 200 mins game time in the PL for them so that's not really comparable. Even for Norwich last year, his minutes per goal was almost back to his best. The fact is, the only place he hasn't performed at this level is here.

Blackburn: 164 mins per goal

Boro (Championship): 193 mins per goal

Norwich: 168 mins per goal

Massive: 375 mins per goal

Easy to say in hindsight but Chansiri should've let him go to Norwch in the summer where let's face it is where he wants to be. You can talk until the cows come home about dealing on our terms etc. but whichever way you look at it we've already lost money on this deal and we'll continue to lose money whilever he stays here?

Goal every 190 minutes at Boro. Same as the rest of his Championship career.

He’s only failed to score at this rate at one club. Ours.

That rather glosses over the very significant overall downturn of the last 4 years or so. Even his generally prolific time at Blackburn ended with a whimper (17+1 appearances, 4 goals - and one of those was against Newport in a cup competition).

But aside from the actual statistics (always wildly overrated both positively and negatively) just watch him and measure his contribution in terms of movement, creativity, tackling, winning or retaining possession, inspiration etc. Whether he scores or not, he just doesn't offer very much overall. Aside from the goals he is little more than a passenger. Can teams afford that kind of performance these days? We certainly can't.

Inferring this is somehow a malaise down to Sheffield Wednesday is a feeble cop out. In the last 4 years he has been at 4 clubs, under at least 7 managers and for long periods he has not been playing very often (just 77 starts in all competitions since mid-October 2015). That itself speaks volumes and cannot be easily swept under the carpet.

Forestieri, Fletcher, Nuhiu, Winnall, Hooper, Joao and even Matias are all very different types of players with varying physiques and skill sets. Yet ALL of them scored at a better rate than Rhodes when playing with the same teammates and tactics. And most of them have been criticised way more despite that. For someone we were told so often "guarantees goals" (TM) that is a damning indictment.

Personally, I'd say that in the modern era Francis Jeffers was our worst signing as his failure was much more predictable and cleaned out every spare penny we had at a time when we had nothing in reserve. But Rhodes runs him close, and that's a miserable state of affairs.

No more excuses.

The problem is that Rhodes isn't an impact sub.

To get the best out of him he needs support up top in a front 2 and needs good delivery into the box.

Problem is he only ever seems to get the chance by coming on with 15mins left of a game.

He's absolutely shot of confidence. What he needs is a manager who is going to say to him that they have faith in his ability and they are going to back him with proper game time. He just hasn't had that here.

(That's absolutely not a swipe at Garry Monk btw)

I’m serious, we go over the same bloody thing week in week out, it’s not going to change, he’s not going to miraculously start playing and banging them in, it’s just pointless to keep going on about it

Ah and there was me thinking that these threads on owlstalk were the missing link in turning Jordan Rhodes into Ibrahimovic...

BINGO!

Seriously,  this rubbish trotted out again?

He's had his starts, game time,  support and a set up to suit him. Believe me he's had more chances than he's deserved due to how much he is bloody costing us.

We need to be a bit more proactive in trying to resolve this situation in January Sure, there has to be takers, but if he’s as good as some still believe, we might be able to get him fixed up Wages will probably be an issue, but there might be a club that believes he can do a job similar to the one he did at Norwich, and who could cover his wages. We have to be realistic about a fee though, or maybe we can engineer some sort of swap deal

Just getting his wages off the books early will be a big help tbh..I still think theres a player there with a solid run of games but its clear he isn't going to be used bar serious injuries. DC just needs to swallow his pride before its too late to salvage anything
