Goodbye Mr Gray?

Recommended Posts

as I see it SG has done a steady job and kept us bubbling well above the trapdoor but in the real world that's all it is and the home form has been abysmal ,to be honest some of the time it was so boring that I feel that it got to the stage where Gray was scared so much of losing that he wouldn't be more adventurous at home, mebe it's just me but it was getting a bit  Irvinesque  ,Stu seemed to have run out of ideas so played the safety game and often gave the opposition the front foot in games which gave any advantage to them , maybe I'm wrong but from my point of view that isn't the way to move to where mr Chansiri  wants us to be ,

personally I think Gray has reached his pinnacle and would struggle to take us any further the nice man image is great but will only get you so far ,iv'e always said it That a manager needs a ruthless streak and so far I haven't seen it in grey ,as an example Laws was a nice man but could only take us so far and he did miracles with what he had ,

but saying all that I would love Stu to get the chance but on past showings I think it may be a step to far for him , better players come with there own mindset and ideas , would Stu be strong enough to handle it I don't know tbh, Anyway that's my two pence worth like it or not as the case may be ,

Gray knows this league inside out now, a huge advantage over any foreign replacement

We'll use that knowledge well next season, combine this with the upgrade in other coaching and playing staff we'll be giving it a good fist

For the first time in years we have a bit of stability and ambition, a few quid to spend and common sense points towards the line of thinking that if DC was going to get rid of SG he would have done so by now. Gray has done a good (arguably great job) here and for now he should be the gaffer but when and if there is an opportunity to go for a different and arguably better manager who will improve us i'm sure we will.  We have seen improvement and progression under Gray on a shoestring budget and so far there has been nothing to suggest we will go backwards next year. To be a contender next year yes we need to sort out the home form and yes we need to sign a few players but that's what a pre season is for no? To address the past seasons success and failures and see how we can improve.

So far this summer he is off to a good start getting rid of all the deadwood left over from the Dave Jones era and offering contracts to the correct players. Now lets go get our flip flops on, pull up a sun lounger and lets wait before judging Gray on what he may or may not do next season. Its 2 years remember not 1.  :ghoulguy:

Or perhaps he's not happy with the "Management Committee" scenario in terms of his position & authority within it.

You'd not be surprised with that either would you.

The most important thing for me is starting correctly whoever is going to be the head coach / manager be it  Stu or someone else needs to be in place before the players report back for pre-season.It's your money D.C. stick or twist.

I get the impression that DC is a sensible businessman. Getting rid of Gray and replacing him with someone like Di Canio would go against every positive thing he has done so far in my eyes.

Let's be honest, if the OP is true and a foreign coach does come in, it's not going to be someone the likes of Klopp or even a Laudrup or Ericsson. I get the feeling though that DC seems to like his staff to have a little bit of football breeding or pedigree about them.

Stuart Gray is a man of honour and integrity

A man who has achieved considerable success under the circumstances

A man with top notch player management skiils

A man who knows football inside out

Unlike the knob heads who want to get rid of him

Imagine land of hope and glory playing over this for some reason.

If i were the owner I think i would stick with Gray for the sake of continuity.

He can always make a change once the season is under way.

That would be the most sensible option but then he might want to hand recruitment to a new man to build the team he wants.

Ante's Bubbly,

As you are an expert, Please provide a structure chart ASAP, complete with process maps, workflows and delegated responsibilities clearly outlined.

Thanks,

A. Thick-Hunt

I may appear to be an expert to you dear chap, but then you do appear to be living up to your name too.

I can just read things and remember what they say, especially things about the club I support, the players the head coach, who has been head coach since he was appointed (head coach), the other members of the management team and so on. Would reading it all again help you? I doubt it.

Thanks,

A Wednesday fan

I heard that Chansiri was to strengthen coaching staff with more specialist coaches but this was working alongside Gray and not in place of him. Was told they were likely foreign but when we appointed Hill thought this was inaccurate. Could be we are supplementing Gray with another coach.

Southampton are code for 'this which have happened once' in conversations like this. They're concrete proof that all clubs should be promoted in their first season in the Championship, that League One players can all end up playing for England and that sacking your manager makes you better.

There's a reason Southampton are mentioned quite so often in these regards, which is because it doesn't happen very often.
