Julian Borner on his way to Hannover 96?

Recommended Posts

Shows how the financial landscape is changing, along with DCs approach too perhaps, that there is no fee.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s had to take a pay cut to go home and that cost has been covered by Hannover in lieu of a fee. He talked about moving here with a lucrative offer so obviously more than what german second tier usually pays

Agreed. EFL clubs should vote to bring in a wages bill cap. Whilst they're at it divorce themselves completely from the PL whose only interest is self interest. Divorce themselves from Sky and negotiate TV deals with the BBC and ITV. Get back to a sustainable financial model and forget chasing the PL dream and feeding off the crumbs that the PL clubs flick off their table which in their arrogance probably feel is magnanimous.

Our current predicament has just brought things, that have been simmering  for a long time for me, to a head. If things don't change I'll happily be looking to get a Sheffield FC season ticket or follow another local non league team.

They tried and the PFA got it overturned in court as being unlawful

Clubs have to be disciplined and stick to a structured affordable wage budget

There was a bit more to it than that IIRC.  The decision for the wage cap was taken without the input of the PFA, which is in itself, against the rules of the EFL, therefore the decision for the cap couldn't stand.

Before that, there was (and still is, I believe) a salary cap based on turnover of the club.  For me, this is a much better solution.

I'll have to have a re-fresh reading of the it all.  (Just found this  https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55997868 which shows the wages-to-turnover is still very much in effect)

One down, I’d imagine 3-4 to follow. The salaries our players are on are unsustainable and we can’t move on with so many high earners that are not either a key player or a saleable asset.

Borner, similar to Hutch, Palmer, Paterson, Dunkley etc are all solid pro’s but you want more than that for what they’re likely earning.

Wonder if all the bad news getting leaked to the press will stop now?
And no I’m not defending chansiri before you start. But it does like we have/ had a disgruntled employee who has been stirring the pot. Let’s see if it stops now.

Cannot believe its a FREE transfer, we need all the money we can get

When Wigan were in administration and Wednesday were after Windass, you'd think Wednesday would have them on the ropes in their times of desperation.

Nope, Wigan hit back and Wednesday paid more (yes I know the reasons).  We are so unbelievably poo in the transfer market!

First to leave on a freebie.

Pattison also packed in, rumours say.

Meh, he tries but he's not very good and out of shape (unless that is his shape)?

Useful player to have in the squad, though like many utility players, he's not that great in any position.

"Stirring the pot"

Absolutely the worst phrase known to man that our fans have adopted

It needs banning on here once and for all

These rules require League 1 clubs to limit their spending on players’ wages to 60% of turnover plus 100% of Football Fortune income (e.g. financial donations, transfer income, revenue from cup matches), with a club relegated from the Championship being able to operate at 75% of turnover for a transitional period of one season.  So we can spend 75% of turnover on  wages but turnover includes owner donations. So if Chansiri has the money he can bung the club a load and we can return to Spendageddon - but the money has to be gifted not a loan.

Apparently if players not paid properly for 2 months they can leave for free. According to a different thread.

This could be the first example of that happening.

Good news if true . Another senior pro off the books.  If we can somehow get Bannan , iorfa, Luongo  and a goalie sold , we might get down to a sustainable level.

the player himself turned out to be a poor buy. Excellent for 3 months. Not the same after his injury but to be fair can’t be easy trying to roll over your wonga.com payday loans every week if your first language isn’t English .

Most senior players will be gone

Yes I feel this might happen and we’ll end up with only the young players remaining like at Pompey and they just weren’t good enough to stay up in league 1.

Equity injections count too.

I suppose this is possible. The players will have no doubt go their lawyer looking over the contracts.

Normally, you'd think players want to avoid this type of thing, as it makes them a bit toxic in attracting other clubs, but I suspect the very public reporting of DC's behaviour means other clubs will be happy; perhaps encouraging players are following this route.

Was a model pro, club captain and a good player in their league for many years by all accounts. Any interested cubs in Germany will no doubt be thinking he's not a bad egg, so it must be down to the dreadful miss management here, plus when clubs are going to be skint becouse of covid getting players in for free if possible is good buisnes.

who are the twelve players we can sell to pay the wages for the next year?

How do we sell players after the transfer window closes, so we need to sell 9 players before the transfer window shuts to cover the 3 months we are in arrears and then last us until the transfer window opens

So name the nine players we can sell, and who we can get to replace them

I don’t mean literally every month I’m aware of how transfer windows work. The point is if we have to sell players to pay wages then me that’s what we have to do.
Bannan, Iorfa, Windass, Paterson, Palmer could all be sold. Possibly Luongo if someone else is willing to take a chance on his injury record which was very good before joining us.

Hutchinson, Dunkley etc are all worthless and we would probably struggle to get anyone to pay for our keepers so the best we could do is hope someone would take them for free.
