When Wigan were in administration and Wednesday were after Windass, you'd think Wednesday would have them on the ropes in their times of desperation.

Nope, Wigan hit back and Wednesday paid more (yes I know the reasons).  We are so unbelievably poo in the transfer market!

Not if you are on commissions.

Latest from The Genting Club:-
Borner transfer to Hanover 96 been agreed since Xmas.
His agent one of those threatening to go to the PFA over money owed......
Wednesday agreed to waive transfer fee agreed with Hanover in lieu of back payments owed to Borner...
Hanover pay Borner a signing on fee because he’s now on a free transfer, equivalent to the money owed to him by Wednesday...... win win win for all involved...... a bit of joined up thinking at last! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

If we have got rid of a player who doesn't want to be here fair enough and if he was threatening action then all the more reason to get rid.

However, the wages owed to him are only said to be 4 months tops. Reports suggest he was on around £12K per week so only saving £200K max in that respect. Surely if we'd have paid him properly we could have extracted a nominal fee, around £350K, so we have come out of this losing money.

Its a massive win,he wont be here next Year,.....though ime sure it wont be long b4 we get 'be careful what you wish for' post...as has already been stated wasnt half the player once he came back from injury...

We need new, younger, fresher, players that are not easily injured and hungry for success.

Not those on allegedly fat contracts...who have been part of a team that has delivered only failure

Nothing to do with his ability as a player or your views on him as a player

If we've lost out on a transfer fee because of the wages issue then we've probably lost out on more than it would have cost to pay him, hence it's a loss financially whichever way you look at it.

Thanks mate - this is also exactly what i've been hearing, that Hannover have agreed to cover all the outstanding wage payments owed to him instead of a transfer fee

We all know football is not a normal business.

This time we see a bold new strategy implemented by our illustrious leader where by we don’t pay players to force them to move and then a new club still has to pay to take them. It’s a bit like the traditional method of a transfer fee but in reverse.

DC proving his genius once again and showing that he is ahead of his time and at the forefront of modern football and the intricacies of transfer dealings.

So, in the round if I’m reading it correctly, by us getting Borners new club to pay his outstanding wages it’s basically equivalent of us getting a fee of about £175k to £200k for Borner?

That doesn’t sound brilliant but nor does it sound terrible. We signed him on a free so any ‘fee’ is an improvement. But I’d say £200k is a bit poor. Even based on his lacklustre form you’d hope for a few more quid than that. I guess the club have to factor in the fact he could walk for nothing at all and then take us to court for unpaid wages on the way out. I think it’s as good an outcome as we could hope for under a garbage set of circumstances.

No hard feeling for the bloke. Started as a good player, went off the ball after injury but always felt he was giving it his all. Good luck to him at his new club.

Blimey

How desperate is that?

we'll let you have him for nowt if you settle up what we owe him? So that he doesnt sue us for breech of contract?

Yep. That’s not a “deal” or strategic thinking. It’s a get out of jail free card to minimise a shuffle aside a problem of the clubs making.

It's not a strategy to be proud of is it!

Apparently this 'deal' has been in the pipeline for a while though, it does make you wonder that having done this 'successfully' for one player the club might be looking to take a similar approach with a few more that have been given inflated wages that we can no longer sustain.
