I still think Thompson at 12/1 is where the value is. Give it another week and I think his price will come in.

If he was to get the job it would be with the task of keeping us up pure and simple. There would be no

long term plan for now. There simply can’t be until we know what division we’ll be in next season?

Longer term I can see another swathe of senior pros leaving and if budgets continue to be cut, it’s going to be a difficult job going forward.

I’m still expecting the model of players being provided for the head coach as the way forward. It’ll split opinion on here but what doesn’t? 🤣

There will be a swathe of senior pros leaving every club, from PL down - either because they are at the end of their contracts or because they have been released to cut down on wages. Granted maybe not as many as we have out of contract in the summer, but in many respects it will be easier as a lot of players are facing uncertain futures. If we act quickly, yet with a targeted approach to the kind of player we are looking to bring in, we could replace every outgoing pro for virtually nothing (with regards to transfer fees).

I think transfer fees as we have known them, and probably wages too, will be much lower in the coming seasons. There is still talk surrounding the potential to introduce salary caps to the Championship and if this happens - which is currently not likely - that will further add to reduction of wages and possible increase to the number of out of contract players.

Very little movement on betting. Cook has hardened in price with one bookmaker so best you can get is 2-5f.

Only Cooks price reflects that there has been any real interest.

All other prices are too long for club to have shown any real interest as Agents are notorious for making a few bob over player and managerial appointments.

No idea where it’s come from but fella on Twitter saying John carver , apparently his odds have slightly shortened

40/1. Surely Thompson would be a better appointment than Carver?

It looks like Today’s random mover is Carver. Now 30/1.

Surely not... but if so, this is fantastic from his Wiki.  Sounds like the perfect man for us:

On 26 January, it was confirmed that Carver had been appointed temporary head coach until the end of the 2014–15 season.[23] During his spell as caretaker manager, he had accrued three losses and a draw in all competitions. Five days after Carver was named the temporary head coach until the end of the season, he won his first match on 31 January, against Hull City.[24] From 4 March to 2 May, he oversaw a run of eight successive league defeats, a club record for Newcastle in the Premier League. Despite such heavy losses, Carver still believed that he was "the best coach in the Premier League",[25] though he later claimed that his words were taken out of context by the media after receiving widespread hilarity for his statement.[26]

This wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. It really wouldn’t.

We are in the market for a coach. Not a manager. If this is the route we do go down we’d be better off giving it Thompson for the rest of the season.
