Unhealthy sugary snacks.

What’s more weird is that one player a week has to get all that stuff, a player that they vote as the ‘worst player of the week’. Bizarrely Fletcher was the ‘worst player’ after the Wigan match, where he was man of the match :Pelupessy:

Good for quick fix but after it runs out it causes a big drop in energy.... Kind of like Heroin.

Might be why joao and Nuhiu are only normally used as subs, they can only play a short time until the sugar rush wears off. If they start they're too tired and run out of steam after 20/25 mins lol

Not only is sugar a simple carbohydrate which breaks down quickly as mentioned and gives short term boosts of energy it is also used to increase performance

Sugar or more specifically glucose is used in anaerobic respiration (When the players work at high intensity or sprinting basically) so it gives them more capacity to sprint faster and harder compared to a lower sugar diet. Also it can help flush out lactic acid which reduces the chances of cramp

Don’t know about the chocolate though cause it’s higher in fat content but the sugar is beneficial

Anyway lecture over :)

Nah this is not a good sign at all. Speaking from a sports science perspective, there are many better fuelling strategies. For example highly branched cyclic dextrin mixed with water would absorb quicker and offer a much better uptake than all of these sweets, which are not pure sugar, but also containing gelatin too. A pro footballer during weekly training should be able to hit his nutritional requirements without needing sweets, however, if they fancy eating them go for it. Just a bit odd and dated our club still buys in to this.

Sports science at Wednesday may have come on a lot in recent years, but it's still lacking in comparison to top championship teams.

Seems to be a difference of opinion here.  Which one is peddling fake news?

What we need on Owlstalk is a lot less scientific research and a lot more idle opinionated rambles.

How else are we going to generate pointless arguments?

I like this new approach of conflicting scientific research though.  That's going to get things going a bit.

However don't get put off idle opinionated ramblers we want to hear from you as well.

lol
