Possible player exit?

I'd be happy if they drew a line under the Abdi saga and let him go for free.

With a year left can we not pay up 6 months of contract let him leave save 6 months of salary. I am sure clubs still do this, same for Matias and Fletcher for me.

It's strikers snd midfielders we need to be selling.

Can only sell what teams are willing to buy. No one is going to be daft enough to buy Fletcher, so sadly, tough decisions have to be made. If selling Hunt means we can keep hold of Fessi or Bannan then it’s a good deal.

Lee was garbage at right back for us! Also not quick enough for a wing back

This is not true.

Lee was good at right back for us, but we are not talking about right back - well I am, but others in this thread are talking about right wing back which he did not play for us or for anyone.

I don't see why people are saying right wing back?   So far Jos has played a back 5, not a 3 with attacking full backs.

I think he will do that permanently, but until he trusts the players at his disposal I am confident he will

Personally I don't see Lee as either right back or right wing back right now - but if he gets fit again I have no doubt he could fill that role very well.

Not if he wants all of his contract.

I am seeing it as very worrying. Right age, loads of pace, sold to a rival, a key position in the system we have played under Jos, and very short on cover,

Only hope is Byram comes in , other wise , I fear a fire sale has started.

Listen, no evidence of that. I see Hunt as a backup player in his position, we've long needed better. It looks to me like the club is looking to improve us in that position and that the backup option will be a youth player. Something many have been calling for and it now makes sense for us. We'll see.

None of us know how much he is on. It’s not just the fee but reduction in wages. For all we know, we could be using the £1.6M to subsidise a free transfer’s wages for a couple of additions.

This could be a very clever bit of business. I’m choosing to be positive until disappointed.

I disagree, i dont think he could play there. Also why would we sacrifice arguably our best midfielder to play him in a position hes either not played in years ( rb) or one hes never played and hasnt got the pace for (rwb)

You know what I don't think we've got a replacement lined up. We're just going to sell all our players and spend the money on a new cakeball.

Hope they have enough left for some cream as well

Couldn't agree more. Abdi and Matthias have just been a drain on resources and an embarrassment to our recruitment policy. Fletcher is now passed his best but I think he's likely to stay.

A squad with no balance and so we add to it by selling our only decent RB.

Time for perspective:  Hunt has never been a defender, woeful in fact, how many times is he caught out of position or ball watching only for a left sided opponent to come in behind him and score. Then there was his performance against Brooks. A headless chicken. Gets into good positions, but is a wastrel. A few good games, but I'm glad he's going.

It's unlikely this will be the only transfer business. This lack of balance we have led us to have a good end of season. It's the core of the squad that got to the play offs twice.

I'm surprised Bristol C have paid £1.5m considering how poor you claim he is.

I'm not sure we'll see much transfer dealings this summer and we are selling our best right back and our quickest player. We just have to hope that someone else is brought in.

Can any of the finance specialists answer me a question please. Does all the transfer fee class as income in this financial year or is it spread over a period of time, if so how long?

Thanks in advance

Without inside knowledge of the deal there's no way of knowing for sure. My guess, because we're clearly having some cashflow issues, is that we've taken a slightly lower fee (albeit that might just be because he's on his last year under contract) in exchange for as much of the fee being frontloaded as possible, i.e. we get the money now. £1.6m isn't exactly a large sum in today's market, Bristol have surely got the means to pay that up front. Clubs tend to spread fees over time when they're particularly large, i.e. I'm fairly sure that our £8 million deal with Boro for Rhodes was staggered over 4 years.
