Popular Post Lord Snooty
"We could do without this you know" "Without what, Sir?" "The bloody Cup, what do you think I mean?" "Well , I thought perhaps you meant the return of Big Brother, Sir. Surely one of the lowest points we've hit as a society having to dredge that back up. A new younger audience now about to see the horrors of this affront to the soul played out every night, as a new wave of ignorant, yet mentally vulnerable, narcissist contestants complete demeaning tasks and let themselves be knowingly manipulated." "Eh?" "Offering their bodies and souls for public scrutiny and consumption. Breakdowns and tears, and soft muck performances and all knowingly for ... the fame. How far we sink that this particular Orwellian dystopia is back for our ghoulish rubbernecking. I fear it will be worse then ever with this new generation." "Well, quite. But no, I'm on about the league cup Stubbs. We need to bomb out of it pronto." "Oh" "Yes, need to bomb out before the injuries get anyworse. Those lot have started early with us this season. They've all ready put paid to Famewo and Adeniran and Windass have more bandage around their knees than Tutankhamun! " "Who are "those lot"? You're not seriously suggesting the EFL are sabotaging your players now as well as bribing referees, Sir?" "No. Of course not. Though now you mention it, I wouldn't put it past them. No. I'm on about those lot up there..." "Sir, not this again. I've told you. They're just myths." "How do you explain Smith then! Never been injured. And Famewo! Nothing even happened. He just routinely taps the ball away and BANG! Gone. Doomed. That's not your common or garden injury, Stubbs. No. That is injury brought by those malicious sods up there. No. We can't take any chance. We need out of this competition fast. Give them as little opportunity as possible to play their sick games on us!" "Well. Shall we crack on with the match thread then Sir. I've been to the village for the team news" "Much happening in town is there?" "Ale has gone up in the Mutton Dagger, Sir. Mrs Slaughterhouse says it's because of the rise in fuel prices causing a chain reaction" "Ha! What rot. She's a profiteer and nothing else. Blimey, Stubbs. You really ought to wake up and smell the coffee. For a man of the world you really are quite gullible aren't you. Eh? Believe any old nonsense you're told. Deary me. Anyway, nip down stairs and get the salt pot. We need to make circles around our beds tonight. Keep the imps away before tomorrow nights game, don't want my lucky scarf getting vexed. Oh and get me a rabbits foot, there's one on the hall table, lovely lady sold it me this afternoon. I told her I'm concerned about Bannans hamstring and she said my wearing that would probably save him from long term injury" --------------------------------------------------- Wednesday -V- Sunderland EFL LEAGUE CUP SPONSORED BY CARABAO KICK OFF: 19:45 Hillsborough Stadium -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WEDNESDAY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Owls boss Darren Moore is likely to ring the changes as the Owls priority will be securing promotion back to the Championship at the second attempt. There maybe a first competitive start for summer recruits Reece James and Tyreeq Bakinson. Despite persistent rumours of a free transfer to the Netherlands Sylla Sow looks likely to start up front. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUNDERLAND ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Black cats gaffer Alex Neill will also likely make a raft of changes. His newly promoted team have had a good start to life back in the Championship having drawn with Coventry and beaten Bristol City in their opening two. However the Scottish coach won't want to risk any players in the early rounds of the cup and knows that consolidation must be the first aim. There are likely to be starts for heroes of last years promotion success, O'Nien, Embleton and Wright. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup 2022/23 will be conducted by Clinton Morrison and Michael Gray following the conclusion of the match live on SKY Sports. The second-round fixtures are slated to take place in the week commencing-: Monday, August 22. Guest cricket_owl
Stack of Champ clubs gone out of the cup tonight. This could deffo be our year. Sunderland (losing FA Cup finalists in ‘92) vs us (Rumbelows winners the year before). This one has massive cup pedigree, and I’m backing us for a clear 3 goal margin. Anyone know how many tickets we’ve sold? Could be the biggest attendance ever for this round of the Lg Cup? The Old Lady will be rocking, that’s for sure. FinnishOwl
Sow scores a hat trick and we'll sell him to Ajax for £1M. Good times. I'd like us to give some youngsters game time, I wouldn't mind having Cadamarteri on the bench.

glynnb
It's an omen that you put James and Brown together in midfield Snoots. I feel good about tonight. They will score all 4 in a 2-2 draw.
Ethel The Tree
I agree with Stubbs, the world would be a far better place without 'reality tv', but I'd keep the League Cup all the same Follow last Saturday with another win and progress through to the next round, what's not to like?

theowlsman
If Sow plays I hope he doesn’t make a pig’s ear of it. Looking forward to seeing Cadamarteri playing. Apparently he is better than George Hirst.

Haven't seen much of him to be honest ,but definitely looks stronger, quicker and more athletic the young George did at the same age,so hopefully will be better equipped to step up and earn some first team time on the bench. He did play on Monday, which might suggest he either won't get any, or only a role from the bench, but this could give him some good experience in a competition that is likely to be irrelevant to us.
Popular Post darklord
Ill be there. I know its not the most glamorous game we will have all season but its one of the few I can afford to attend and bringing the daughter along so will just be nice for some time with her and her first night game. 9

mrgund
Promotion winning teams have to be looking to win every game they play, no matter the competition. Promotion winning teams have squads good enough to win all games. Let's do this!
theowlsman
Cadamarteri comes on and starts his first team career with a bang, just like Ritchie Humphrey did, and gets a couple of goals, bursts his way into the first team squad, sets us alight with optimism, we go on to win the league in style. Proper fantasy football. Let's have it. 2
