I said in the thread in the general football forum that Southgate should have picked Ward-Prowse for the squad because Rice, Henderson and Phillips are too alike.

Yep.  England needed a dead ball specialist like Ward-Prowse, for sure.

Never really rated Southgate as a manager.  Job is too big for him.

Cunning plan to finish 3rd and avoid winner or runner up of Group of Death?

im not saying it was a masterplan. Just saying the first thought was not to over extend and get beat.

I should remember when emotions are high posts get jumped on on here.

Laughing at all this Scotland were brilliant tonight. They worked hard. Defended fantastically well. As they had to as England had most of the ball.

We were pedestrian as we always tend to be, passing side to side, back, side to side, back. We just couldn’t thread the ball through and get in behind because as I said Scotland defended well.

I thought Scotland got the benefit of the doubt with the officiating. I’d like to bet if it was Adams that went down rather than Sterling in the box, it goes to VAR?

Anyway on to Tuesday night now. Totally expecting two defensive midfielders again.

Not enough ingenuity or guile from that England side tonight. They should be embarrassed to fail to beat a side who probably only have one or two players who would even get in the England squad. Early days in the tournament, but I agree with all the comments about Southgate. Decent bloke, but not tactically inventive enough to win this tournament in my view. Be delighted if he proves me wrong,  but honestly I doubt he will. I think we will be fortunate to make the last 8 and he will be fortunate if he takes us to the World Cup.

People seem to like him because he fits the political narrative of the day that the media push, but as a football manager he’s done nothing. If we’d have appointed him in 2016 everyone would say he failed at Boro and isn’t good enough for Wednesday.

The 2018 World Cup I’d say was meeting expectations.. any average manager would have beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden. He failed against Belgium twice  and Croatia. Nothing outstanding about it.

He’s stubborn and plays a bad formation, leaves out our best players, and seems unable to change anything. He’s like an England version of Pulis, Monk and Jos.

From what I’ve seen, Belgium, France, Holland, Italy and Portugal would all beat us comfortably. Germany and Spain are a bit average too but wouldn’t expect to beat them either.

We could end up playing Belgium if we finish 3rd. Not much of a plan IMO.

Actually better to finish second though as we would play runner up in Sweden, Spain group.

England played their normal Premier paced Chuckle Brother ball

Nothing has changed for me

We have lots of runners (with the ball. Not in behind), but no one who wants to pass forward

Rashford & Sterling rarely offer tangible end product ... Ask the Manchester fans

With a lack of service to Kane, our only threats, are long shots from Mount & Foden

Wasn't intending to jump on your post. I was being tongue in cheek but forgot the emoji. Sorry 😞
