Oh I'm not playing those games when people just start to rewrite history or just blatantly lie that we've never played in subzero temperatures on matchday befroe

lol

No chance

Go try that on someone else

ive been to many night games when its been frosty in last few years but either undersoil heating was on or pitch covered before and after game . clearly after that snow on the pitch it couldnt be recovered . so question is when was the undersoil heating last used? and if it costs x amount per day then i wouldnt blame any club championship or below not switching it on.

How much will it cost to run undersoil heating for 2/3 days when there is no financial gain at all in doing so?

There's no financial gain at all in actually bothering to play out the rest of the season at all.  Or indeed continuing to exist as a football club.

If Chansiri can no longer be bothered to cover the day to day running costs of the club then he should leave.

Why bother having a stadium at all?  It all costs money.  We can play in Hillsborough Park.

It’s pretty clear it’s because our undersoil heating is fecked. Absolutely no reason it should be called off if it was working.

All the under soil pipes were replaced when the Desso pitch was laid. They should have a life of 10+ years unless someone has spiked through them. As they contain fluid, the system needs to be run in sub zero temperatures or there could be a burst. Most underfloor pitch systems are automatic unless deliberately switched off. So either the boiler has gone or it was deliberately switched off. Like the pitch lights which you can see at night, you can see the condensate exhaust coming from the boiler house in the north west corner when operating. The temperature on Thursday night got down to -8 and last night to -5.

There have been numerous occasions where under-soil heating's effectiveness has been questioned. One notable incident happened on December 27, 2005 when three stadia in the FA Premier League, supposedly equipped with under-soil heating, failed to stop their pitches being covered in thick snow - this led to the matches being postponed. Subsequently, on January 1, 2006, the Premier League investigated as to why the pitches at Macron Stadium (Bolton Wanderers), Ewood Park (Blackburn Rovers) and St. James' Park (Newcastle United) were not able to repel the snow.

Depending how cold, or if the system is not maintained could make the system no use at all

Those games were 15 years ago now.
It might be just one of those things that happen, undersoil system didn't work because of some unforeseen circumstance. That is entirely possible.

I wouldn't sake my life on it but think it more likely the system didn't work because we have cut maintenance on to to a minimum due to lack of funding.

IIRC was a harsh winter in 2010-11 and Wednesday had I think 2 games called over Christmas because maintemce on the ground was cut to a minimum as the club had recently had financial issues and some pipes were in danger of bursting.

Genuine question: if a club has undersoil heating, are they actually required to have it turned on? I mean is there an actual rule that means having an existing (and presumably operational) system in place it must be used, or is it down to the club's discretion?

From the EFL's rules it appears undersoil heating is not compulsory but covers at least are required.

27.9  Each Home Club shall provide full pitch frost covers and/or under soil heating (the specification of which shall meet the reasonable satisfaction of The League) which shall be operated to the extent necessary to procure, so far as it is reasonably possible, that the pitch is playable on the occasion of each match. A breach of this requirement which results in the postponement or abandonment of a match shall be dealt with in accordance with Regulation 31, and not Regulation 8.4

If we don't have working undersoil heating, we should have an alternative method of protecting the pitch.

Today will go down in SWFC history as the day that some fans were trying to convince other fans that we couldn’t play a match because it was a bit too cold

In February

On a normal February day

When we have played in lower temperatures as a standard for years

And when next February and the temperatures are lower and we don’t call games off

That’s what today will be forever remembered as

It’s gonna be one of those classic moments when it will be ‘ha ha ha do you remember that day when...’

It’s not a normal February. It’s an exceptionally cold one.

The heating should work, I agree. But it isn’t a normal February by any stretch of the imagination

Coldest its been since 1995..

Clubs in British football that got their home game on today.... Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Reading, Watford, Charlton Athletic, Hull City, Northampton Town, Plymouth Argyle, Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, Cambridge United, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Motherwell, Rangers.

Clubs in British football that had their home game postponed today.... Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, AFC Wimbledon, Blackpool, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Bradford City, Forest Green Rovers, Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, Morecambe, Ross County.

It says quite a lot about where we are as a club currently - do you see any other big clubs in the second list?

So many factual things missing from this post.
