Barnsley looking for a new home

Recommended Posts

If DC  is clever here we could benefit financially. DC decides he is prepared to rent out Hillsborough to Barnsley but SWFC then complain to DC that by having a 2nd tenant this will increase the wear and tear in the pitch and have a negative impact on their ability to play the brand of football they are hoping to. DC agrees with this as a kind hearted landlord and agrees to reduce the rent SWFC pay to use Hillsborough by say 50%. While this might not be an increase in income it is a reduction in expenditure which amounts to the same thing in essence.

It was hilarious that they were on their soapbox about other clubs not having their house in order and the poor implementation of the rules. Whilst they were a paragon of the EFL.

Then it was revealed they don’t even own their own stadium and have their own money disputes.

Folk on here think it's funny, but this sort of thing could happen to us. Dephon Chansiri personally owns our ground, but whoever gets it upon his death might not be keen on just handing it back to SWFC.

Thats true.

But in the context of the comments made by the club about others and then this comes out...

I'd happily rent Hillsborough out to them. We'd have to be careful on the share deal though. If its with the stadium's company then we won't get any FFP benefit. If they pay SWFC rent that might work.

Can also see them trying to ground share with Rotherham.

Millmoor was still standing last time I drove through Rotherham

If we can benefit in anyway for FFP then absolutely offer to help.
If we don't i'd be happy to see us take the moral high-ground and help them up tbh, as long as they eat some very humble pie in one way or the other.

Tired of clubs against clubs dragging eachother all down, would be nice to start trying to lead being collaborative or something (even though we rarely seem to be the ones to kick up a fuss).

Really clever.  SWFC pay less rent on an asset we used to own and paid £0 rent on before.   So instead of paying Chansiri £3m a year, we could pay him £1.5m a year for something we owned for 118 years, that we lost because of his incompetence and gambling.  Genius.  The man is Mr Merdle reincarnated.

Sheffield Wednesday did, it was an asset on our books.  Then the CEO of Sheffield Wednesday and the owner of Sheffield 3 Ltd signed a 30 year agreement that Sheffield Wednesday would pay Sheffield 3 Ltd £90m for an asset that had previously been on the accounts at £22m.  The agreement stated that Sheffield Wednesday would pay for the upkeep of the ground too.  The CEO then left Sheffield Wednesday, and the owner of Sheffield 3 Ltd took full decision making of Sheffield Wednesday.   We swapped a £22m asset for £60m in cash that had already been spend, and  are left with a £90m liability legacy.

'Chansiri won't sell SWFC without selling Hillsborough' is the constant claim, yet here we have a club being sold without the ground just up the road from us, and the former owner refusing to sell their share and refusing to maintain the ground etc  Coventry will be playing their games at Birmingham, but don't worry, it could never happen to us though, never.

We are Sheffield Wednesday after all.
