From what I’ve seen of Baston he doesn’t have the aggression to really bully defenders but is much younger and more skillful than Chris Martin or Gestede.

yes we really need a forward that is going to bully defenders. At the minute all our attackers are quite small, we need a more powerful one to play in front of them.

Behave!!

Kachunga:

Windass: Bit more versatile - like another Adam Reach

His stats for last season

36 games played centre forward 3 times scored 0 assisted 1, played right wing 29 times, scored 2 and assisted 4, left wing scored once assisted 0.

From your attached he has probably played for other clubs up front but I always look where he played at his last club, the season before he played right wing 14 of 20 games and the season before that 16 of 19 games again played right wing.  so in that last 3 season he has played right wing in last 3 season he has played RW in 80% of his appearance and up front on only 12% of the time with the balance on the left wing.

I would suggest he is not a striker, many players start in a position then end up favouring another position. Look at Fessi we bought him as a striker and he played more on the left wing.

Lets just hope he scores a lot of goals and create a lot of goals for others.

As this begins to take shape, it almost looks as if we might be more effective playing another system. The only thing that seems certain is that it will be three in midfield. Looking at the forward options we now have, and what is likely to arrive, there are several ways we could play. Assuming we bring in a target man, and a left sided striker, it looks to me more likely that we may play three up front. It’s great to have different options of course, as it allows us to change set ups to outwit opponents. I know the set up against Leicester suggested otherwise, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Palmer at full back in an orthodox back four, with Kachunga or Windass ahead of him. For example, if it is indeed going to be Baston, he is well used to playing the lone striker role. Very rarely do you get a pairing in Spain

is now the time to forget this 3-5-2 formation as something that was not meant to be.

We have 2 good right backs all be it one is now playing centre back. We have plenty of strength in the centre back area and in central midfield but we still need a ball winner. We look to have enough in an attacking creative midfield, maybe we need another right wing option or switch Harris to the right - never liked having a right footer playing on the left wing, they become too predicable and rarely get to the byline, instead they cut in field.

We are clearly struggling to get in a decent striker, so lets change the formation and take some of the pressure off Rhodes until he finds his feet again and starts hitting the back of the net.

4 - 5 - 1

We have a back 4, we have 2 wide midfielders and we have 3 in the centre and hopefully a striker up front getting service from not just the wings, but also an attacking central midfield.

This gives us strength at the back but with enough cover down the flanks, it allows us to play 2 creative midfielders in the centre but still have that ball winner in there and give us some pace and trickery down the wing, without the need for the player to be both attacking and defensively strong. Then when we are on the ball it becomes a 4-3-3.

The only players we need in then is a central midfield ball winner, then before the transfer window. we can see if we need a keeper and if Penney is good enough to be the left back option or even switch Palmer. Playing 3-5-2 we are very dependant on having 2 wingers who are as good defending as attacking and these types of players normally cost millions something we don't have.

For me it would make a better use of the players we have.

Really hope we continue adding over the next week, certainly need one more striker considering at best we have 3 strikers,

full back

striker

wide player

attacking midfielder

complete us

imo we need specialist strikers now. We seem to be a team with players that can play in multiple positions but don’t specialise in a set position. Jack of all trades, master of none springs to mind.

I reckon we’ll see three more in.

James Garner, Dion Sanderson and Chris Martin I think would all be realistic and good additions.

Id genuinely be buzzing with that

I am feeling happier ,I dont think the signings have finished yet .

How a couple of signings have changed the atmosphere on Owlstalk.

I still think the new striker to lead the line will be Wickham. (not ITK)
