That Second Goal

A thing of beauty

Bannan had the vision asking for the ball, a lovely through ball to Reach who picked out Nuhiu and he hit it crisply first time leaving the goalkeeper and defender floundering.

Oh and two crazy commentators.

The obligatory upturn in form when it’s time for a new contract

That is a perfect example of what Bannan does. Reach will get the assist, but so often it is Bannan, earlier in the move, that is the key creator of chances. When discussing player contributions, it often comes down to goals and assists - there's nothing to really record what Bannan does there. And what he does there is of the highest, highest quality.

Great ball by Bannan but look at Atdhe’s movement to create the space for himself. The lads got far more footballing intelligence than a lot give him anywhere near enough credit for.

100% agree and at the risk of causing eruptions on Owlstalk ....some negative people that post about him may want to consider what he can/does do, rather than just being negative.

Agree seems silly to me just because the last player to pass to the goalscorer gets the credit (and to be fair to Reach it was a cracking cross and deserves credit) but so often its just a token pass.

But it was Bannan who had seen the goal unfurl in his mind seconds before he made it reality but the stats wont acknowledge that vision.  He saw the space behind the defender was aware of Reaches availability and that Nuhiu was still in the area.

Fantastic stuff.

Absolutely, you can see him make 2 glances as he makes the run and just before he plays the ball - 'unfurls in his mind' sums it up. He sees the game before it happens, which is the mark of a genuinely quality player in my opinion. He's a lovely player to watch.

Watched that gif 50 times now I reckon!!!

Brilliant from Bannan.

Takes a little look up and then bang, cuts their defence apart.

Not too many at Champ level who can do that. He's a excellent footballer.

Don’t underestimate Reach’s role in that goal.

Yes, Bannan’s perfectly weighted pass made it easy. No need for a controlling touch. Just look up and pass.

Yes, Nuhiu being the only player in or near the box made the decision making easy, and his perfectly timed run made the pass relatively simple.

But...

Reach is the nearest we have to Bannan in “seeing the move unfurl in his mind”. Had it been Harris or Murphy on the left the likelihood is that they wouldn’t have been ready for Bannan’s pass and it would have either rolled out for a goal kick or Bannan would have turned and passed back to Borner.
Harris and Murphy: speed and ball control.

Reach: anticipation and vision.
