Absolutely crazy when you think about it. If results go our way tonight, and I doubt they will cos there's far too many that hurt us either way, and we win Saturday I'll reassess the situation. Then I'll want to wait til the next round of games to have another look. I'm not going to start believing yet, I did that before the reading game and thoroughly jinxed it for the next 3. In 62/63/64 we finished 6th in div one each season. And in 63 we had the craziest run of matches in march, april and may (no less than 20 matches in 2 and a half months). 28 years later and the 91 cup win was at the tail end of a decade of a relatively successful period back in the big time. Now? 28/30 years later could just be the beginning of another decade of relative success in the higher echelons hopefully! I guess my point being we get the suffering and reemergence either side of every 28 to 30 year period since 1867! It's highly unlikely but there's a tiny chance that Norwich could be already promoted when we play them but I think they'd have to win their next 6 and pigs lose every game before then. I must have misread the remaining fixtures that someone put up on here, it showed Leeds being the second to last game of the season. Thanks for that' bud. alanharper Posted March 13, 2019 Share Posted March 13, 2019 Actually you're looking for historical cycles, something significant seems to happen to us when the year ends in zero. Since winning the title in 1930, we've been either promoted or relegated every time other than when there was no league in 1940 and we got promoted "early" in 1959 rather than 60. Unfortunately 4 of the last 5 times have been relegations, but perhaps we're due a promotion in 2020... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My Gt Grandad Tommy played for the Owls in 2-6 in your list. I forgot about the 2nd Div. Championship 1899-1900; a real achievement that, in their 1st season at Hillsborough to go straight back up after being relegated in their last season at Olive Grove. Will we win the play-off Cup this year to add to the other Cups we've won when the calendar exactly repeated itself? A lot of people were moved by the last slide I showed of him aged 76, at Hillsborough, in 1949, at the 50th anniversary of Wednesday moving to the ground from Olive Grove.. I said that he had two things in his possession that day that he was very proud of, his two FACup winnders medalss on his watch chain, and also two things he wouldn't wish on anybody his pair of crutches - a legacy of his commitment to Wednesday, playing on in game after game whilst injured. I didn't mean 'shake' to come out as 'shaaake' in my prev post. I found the picture of Tommy at the 50th Hillsborough anniversary game in 1949 mentioned in my post which I've attached. You can see his two FA Cup winners medals on his watch chain and his obvious reliance on crutches through latent effect of injuries as a player. He used to say that he 'tormented' his forwards by telling them to have more cracks at goal.
