No chance of him leaving this windows unless the offer is massive imo.

Several factors in play, I know some people will find this hard to believe but the player doesn’t want to leave. Fees are also inflated in jan, so we are likely to receive more if he leaves then. He is also contracted until 2020 with a further year possible. There is also the pr side, and lack of ability to replace in this window (jan gives us a lot more time). The difference to p&s would be negligible selling now (in comparison to jan), so just wouldn’t make sense.

So, I could see him leaving in jan, yes but now? No.

Back to the op, be very interested to where you’ve heard that info?

Also factor in that there is an ongoing situation with the Fa that has yet to be resolved.

He maybe wants to be fresh for the steering group....

On the other hand his value should be high, he's fit, scored about 8 in his last 12 games or something? All players leave eventually and we need the cash.

Yes he is our best player and we can probably kiss goodbye to any lingering chance of top 6, but to fit him in we do have to give him room to play a certain way with him as a left sided striker. Winnall is a ready made replacement as a striker albeit a different type. If we go with a midfield four of Reach, Bannan, Pessy/Jones, Boyd, and Winnal/Hoops and Joao/Fletch up top, that looks decent. We have to fund the defence improvements and the debt.

Its a huge disappointment but realistically its the right choice if we get 10m plus.

How would you know he doesn’t want to leave?

my mate works on tills in Asda at chap n talks to Fernando’s wife’s hairdresser all time. Can’t wait to go back to Argentina apparently.......

He's got Italian parents and he moved back to Italy at age 16, so what makes you think his wife is Argentinian?

Any more highlights of their chats? Does he want to get back to his roots?

How many of the last 10 games did he actually start?

Competitive games... I'd guess about 6 or 7, seeing as he came back towards the end of the season and started most of the last few.

Plus hasn't he only missed Sunderland this season?

so as I said

Joao signing a new deal is more asset stripping and bad news

Lol

I'll say it again and hopefully this time you may begin to comprehend.

Even a club run as ineptly as ours realises that allowing Joau to walk for free is crazy. DC will now be able to command a good fee for the lad.

Club will get more the longer he has remaining on his existing contract.

Simple mistakes have put the club in the position its in, the number of people i speak to who within football that are amazed at the basic errors being made is amazing and its no dig at anyone at the club but people should have known better. Some staff have had their noses pushed out.

If they could somehow manager to get circa £10m and invested £3-4m in good Lge 1 & Championship players and there are some about (Lindsay & Bradshaw at Barnsley for example) which makes the team more balanced and relatively strong with a good work ethic and utilised the rest towards P&S coupled with a good sponsorship deal, also removed the wages of Abdi, KW, etc which equates to £1m per man then i can see light at the end of the tunnel.

The clubs failure has been its reluctance to wheel and deal simple as that. The mindset needs to change and football people need to be brought in.

This. Really think we need a director of football in or someone who does a similar role. Preferably someone who has some affiliation to wednesday who wont try to milk the club. Preferably someone who knows the english leagues

Extending contracts for potentially key (or saleable) players is the opposite of running things ineptly.

It is a good sign no doubt, more so that Joao was actually willing to extend as if he wanted to move he would have surely just run down his contract. The fact that the club have got into a situation where coming out an an embargo and being able to offer extended deals to players who could otherwise walk in a few months is seen as a major positive is a sign that things have been run pretty badly.
