Why not, worked out well for Villa.

Benitez was clever with Newcastle as they spent money on mostly young british players- some who had been successful in the championship already, and most of them would have some resale value depending on what happened.

I think Stoke will look to do a similar thing

Villa giving that crazy contract to Terry was asking for trouble

Well Khan can buy Wembley so anything is possible.

Look forward to playing in the Stoke City Championship next season

Joking aside, Stoke are a well run club and will likely use the parachute payment to their advantage. Like Newcastle did a couple of seasons ago

Mmmm, Rowett aint that savvy.

All Stoke have done is sign Afobe....what are people worried about. Afobe wouldn't get in our team.

Stoke will struggle imo.

Read an article recently where it noted that Newcastle would be in the same financial position as Villa, had they not gone up. Newcastles wage bill was ridiculous, and they were helped b getting £30m for Sissoko.

I've no sympathy for these clubs. Many of these owners are no better than a drunk walking into a casino. Any businessman with half a brain wouldn't touch football with a barge pole.

Exactly, also whilst I think these situations force the EFL to look at how parachute payments can be spent it reduces the likelihood of any easing of regulations that would benefit teams that do have money.

There seems to be no shortage of owners that underestimate both the cost of reaching the Prem and the level of difficulty involved.

Ive always thought that if a team gets relegated they should be punished ..

Not assisted to get straight back up ...

West Brom have cut their cloths accordingly as have Burnley in the past when relegated .

In my view Villa have carried on spending and behaving like the big time Charlies they thought they were and expected to go straight back up .

Well tough they didn't and should be punished accordingly for living beyond their means ...

And let's not forget Villa were one of the Premiership establishment that voted in parachute payments. The Premiership establishment that has crippled lower league football, turned our top division into a foreign league, run by foreign owners, owned by foreigners and with foreign players dominating it. The only English thing remaining about the Premker League is the referees. And it's this Premiership establishment that has ruined the national team and International football.

Anyway, that closed shop they helped build is well and truly closed for them now. Probably for a generation.

By way of a summary, **** em.

Are we all resigned to the fact that we won't be signing anyone this summer bar a couple of loan signings?

Not too sure what some people are expecting... we’ve got a massively unbalanced squad that’s probably a bit too heavy and our main focus needs to be on shifting some dead wood out

I’m more than happy with using the loan market if it’s done correctly and addresses the areas were lacking in with players that will help us push on

I know this is not SWFC related... but other clubs are getting some business done.

Reading have signed David Meyler (ex Hull), John O'Shea (Ex Sunderland), and Andy Yiadom (Ex Barnsley).

Looks like we need to shift a few out before we bring any in.

Good early business from Reading though.
