Didn't bother holding it up or flicking it on, none of this laying it off. Just put it in the back of the net. Ha wasn't even a giant, he just got in the right place, jumped well, timed it to perfection and hammered it into the back of the net with his head. My memory might be a bit skewed, I was only a nipper and he was a hero of mine. 3
Popular Post theowlsman
When I read Hooper and Bannister, I start to suspect others have a different definition to myself on what constitutes a target man. 11

As target men, John Ritchie and Lee Chapman literally head and shoulders above the rest.
shandypants
Mark Bright, Lee Chapman or Andy Mac

Would say Steven Fletcher was probably best target man post Premier League but Lee Chapman was much braver than any player we have around these days. Owl Be Back
Mark Bright for me too. Fantastic foil for others to play off and also scored his fair share.
Basement Jack
I guess it’s all relative to the time they were playing Deon Burton could hold a ball up better than most and could take a ball out of the air with his chest better than anybody I’ve seen 3
Lomas613
Tudgay fantastic header of the ball flicked on nicely most of the time.
Hootsman
As an out and out target man it's got to be Andy McCulloch. Big, burly and cracked in the occasional screamer.
Blatter
Two stand out for me. David Bronco Layne and John Ritchie because they were both good with the ball at their feet whilst also great target men. Lee Chapman for bravery and heading ability but not quite in the same league as those two.

Mid Wicket
Probably John Ritchie just ahead of Mark Bright and Lee Chapman.
4evaowl
Lee Chapman was the best Target Man in my time...I'd have also gone for Mark Bright but he was more than just a pure Target Man. Chapman was so underrated when he was here, as it showed when he left. 3

That was my favourite thing about Tudgay, he had a fantastic leap. Would beat big centre backs in the air from goal kicks time after time. At his peak for us he deserved to play for a better team really.
OwlinOldham
Tony Crane and Kim Olsen. Both giants of men who could do wonderous things with the ball and who dominated in the air.....* *..... Claims of said players ability may be factually innacurate and wildly overstated.
