No Uniform
Almost a completely new team. Went without paying players for 3 months and have a suspended 6 point deduction hanging over us. We are outsiders. 5
Popular Post sheffield_dave
We went into this pre-season in absolute shambles, and it's only within the last 2 weeks or so that we've put together the makings of an actual first team squad - which of course comes with its own question marks about fitness and gelling etc. I think this will be a season that we grow into. How quickly we can weather any early teething problems, how quickly we hit some form and how many of the younger players are genuinely upto it, will decide if we "do anything" this year. I don't think we'll have a realistic picture on what this team "is" until November at the earliest. On the plus side though, I'd fancy us to have a good season if we can find any form earlier than that.

owlinexile
Its important to remember we have added no less than five players since the league cup match Vs Huddersfield. We are going to be a bit of an unknown quantity for the first few matches.

OwlsItGoing
I've listened to "not the top 20" podcast and they have predicted us to finish 10th and that our signs have been pretty poor with Lewis wing being a disappointing signing. One of the hosts also said he would not like BPF in goal mentioning his time at Leeds being very poor. Seems a few reckon our side is nowhere near good enough. Suppose will see
Owls77
Both us and Ipswich have had massive overhauls. Both sides on paper look really strong. Regardless what happens I think we need to give Darren Moore a massive pat on the back, he has given us something to look forward to after a terrible couple of years on and off the pitch. I am not fussed what the pundits think, just hopefully makes the players more determined.
Tony Pulis
Brilliant. That works to our advantage big style. Everyone expects Ipswich to do the business and roll over this league, meanwhile steady but solid Sheffield Wednesday inch up the table...
Owls77
Promotion rivals have brought in better than Lewis Wing. Clearly written by someone who has no knowledge of the EFL.

Popular Post mcmigo
I think there are some realistic assessments on there. We have taken a season to adjust each time we have been relegated in this league over last 20 years. Both first seasons down we finished mid table. It takes a while to flush out losing football from a side, and we have been awful for 18 months. Some of these teams tipped to do well , they have adjusted to the league and know what they are doing how to win in this league. It is a very long time still since we won from a losing position - that takes time to rebuild mentally. So much will depend on whether the goalkeeper signing is the right one, and whether we can push teams onto the back foot and towards their own goal line which we simply could not do last season with Paterson/ Rhodes/ Harris/ Windass/ Reach. More than anything though our fate and success is dependent on whether the owner has the interest/ finances/ organisation to pay players , avoid embargos and of course to avoid triggering the suspended points deduction. On that front my faith remains very low.
darklord
fortunately league position isnt determined by pre season predictions
abdiwonderland
I think we will be there or thereabouts all season. Late charge for automatic. 1
stocksyuto
I’ll be happy with a steady season I’m all for the rebuild and if/when we get promotion we will be even stronger in the championship
flash
Good! Would prefer us to be “underdogs”. Under no illusions that this is a tough league. We have the quality there but it’ll take time to gel. Hope is to be there abouts around the playoffs mid-season and that’ll be successful for me considering the overhaul! Kick on from there!
SiJ
We are the unknown quantity, but I still find some of the predictions a bit odd. Do feel a lot of then are heavily skewed by the relegation and the ensuing nonsense that happened with player salaries. Understandably, it will cloud some opinions. Do think the two on the Not The Top 20 podcast were talking some rubbish though.
SwellOwl
Most predictions will be based on the absolute shambles at the start of the summer. Coming out the other side, we have had a summer far better than anyone could have imagined. Assembled a new squad and a fresh look. All about proving them wrong and doing ourselves justice.
wmb
I can see us having a mixed start. Tough trip for the first game mixed in with a couple of local derbies in the first 4 games. I think 6 OR 7 points would be a very good return from those games. I definitely see us getting stronger as the season progresses and the team gels together. Wouldn't surprise me to see us come with a charge 2nd half of the season. A little like the 2012 promotion season. I do think a lot of these predictions from various media outlets were written before we completed the majority of our business. On paper I don't think anyone has recruited better than us other than maybe Ipswich. It's a little cliche but Hillsborough can be a big plus for us if we hit any kind of form. Appreciate that can also work the other way though!

Yet the Bookies have us 3rd favourites at 3/1 to get promoted, just behind Ipswich and Sunderland.
