pound for pound, Jordan Rhodes, the worst signing in our history?

For me Abdi beats him

i was indifferent about Rhodes from the beginning. It baffled me how Scotland were so poor up front but never had him  in the team, or the squad for that matter despite his remarkable scoring record at that point.

Abdi though.... I had seen Watford a few times and he was class a proper footballer he oozed class

I can honestly say in the past 20 years I’ve never been as excited by a signing

I still can’t get my head around his spell here

For me I’ve never been as disappointed in a player.Pound for pound our worst signing

I cant believe I’ve just wrote that! But it’s true

Agree

Really weird the Abdi situation, he didn’t have a massive injury,  he was just permanently unfit throughout his time here, and for the last 2 years he was hardly mentioned by managers and the local press. Worth noting that he hasn’t played football since he left, looking at his Instagram he just seems to be on a permanent holiday with his wife

Deserves a dishonourable mention.

In a list of top 50 worst Premiership  transfers.

2 million , 16 appearances, 1995 ,I think

We made our money back though when we sold him.

izzy brown prob cost us 25grand a week my god he is a fraud of a footballer ,

Funnily enough his "like" got mentioned in a chat in a meeting at work during a break about teams like Chelsea and City the other day ....

They want to sign the "Rough Diamond"  the "Golden Nugget"

But the nugget doesn't want to leave n get homesick... so as part of the deal his mate gets dragged along for the "ride" to keep him company ....

It was agreed that Izzy Brown fell into that "mate" category...

There's bloody hundreds of these  Izzy Brown Chappies in football atm ....

Urby for me, nothing about it said anything but agent nonsense.

Out of nowhere signing, predictably did the square root of feck all on the pitch.

Same here, Urby may have come without a huge transfer fee, but he was one of the top earners and if I recall correctly only played in our last match of the season, and that was it... at least Rhodes played and scored a few times, it's not like our other strikers have been scoring a lot either...

Not just the fee, the mental wages that went with it.

Shame but we move on.

£ for £ Jeffers was worse, it took everything we had and he never delivered or looked bothered.

That head butt was the end

Thats a load of testicles though, 21 here six months most of them sub appearances, 4 goals and sold for 2 million plus a hefty sell on clause which the club never collected though.

Win Jonk for me.  When we paid about £2.5 Million for him I thought we were buying one of the world's best midfielders, but he was forever injured and on huge wages for the time. Never lived up to his reputation, just another on a big final pay deal.

Anyone who thinks Rhodes is our worst ever signing has been supporting this club for less than 5 years

Not even in top 10

Hard to argue he wasn't tbh.

Nothing was expected of Emanuelson tho was a totally weird signing...

When we blew £3m on Abdi we had a decent side and he was supposed to be the icing on the cake

so even if he was a total non event it didn't really affect us.

Rhodes was bought when we had 4,000,000 strikers....but his goals was supposed to fire us to the PL

Doesn't matter how you look at it he was probably the biggest flop in our history.

I don't think he is the worst signing in our history but think he stands out as he is the one that sums up the Chansiri era.

Was just brought as a vanity signing when we didn't need him or could afford him to stay within the financial rules.

Rhodes probably still is the best striker outside the Premier League as well over the last 20 years.

I think you haven’t read the OP. Nobody is saying he was the worst player, but pound for pound he is undoubtedly the worst signing I have seen and I’ve been watching Wednesday since 1979
