Manwë
9 hours ago, Dot said: Barnsley are only in the championship this season by virtue of another club being docked points last season Because that club (Wigan) went into administration, whereas Barnsley didn't a) go into administration or b) get their accounts in a muddle, or c) fail to pay their players, ergo, Barnsley didn't have any points docked. So, on balance, are Barnsley better or worse than Wigan? Well, Wigan are 22nd in League One now, and Barnsley are mid-table in the Championship. Barnsley are currently 11 points ahead of us, and only 5 points ahead of us if we ignore the points deduction. But the points deduction happened, it's a thing, and it happened because of SWFC's incompetence in the boardroom. It's almost as if, that if you follow the rules rather than breaking them, you can put yourself in a better position in the league. 3
Guest Hornsby
Watch Moneyball. When Bean clears out the deadwood and malcontents from the dressing room . And replaces em with young , eager players with top profit potential and skills now to vastly improve team. Add that to stat man to identify cheap winners, you get winning on on a budget. And no conflict with dodgy agents who hated. It aint hard.
matthefish2002
Think Barnsley don't over extended themselves financially. Dont spent what they cant afford and make sure off the pitch they are well run. Having a good season but are a club that yo yo between 2nd and 3rd tier which is about they natural level. Guest Bulgaria
I don't think it's a case of why they are better than us or not, it's the fact that they have a plan, and play really attractive stuff that really grinds our gears. Fair play to them.

jonnyowl
Are they that much better though? In terms of points accumulated they've gained 39 and we've gained 34 playing a game less. Having said that they've made big improvements this season, we've gone backwards and its all down to 1 thing. recruitment.

Barnsley fans didn't choose their chairman any more than we chose ours. As fans, we're at the mercy of the wealthy individuals who fancy buying a football club, and simply have to hope we get a good one. Some get lucky; some don't. There are plenty of fans on here who are clearly sick to the back teeth of Chansiri's antics, but it doesn't make any difference: those who no longer back him still suffer the consequences of his actions.
Popular Post KivoOwl
Always had a soft spot for Barnsley. A proper town, made up of little mining communities similar to Kiveton. Proper Yorkshire folk. Most Barnsley fans I've met have been sound as a pound (a few knuckle draggers like every club - being chased back to the station by some scrotes after an U23 game because I had a Wednesday hat on was equally frightening/hilarious) They are a few hundred yards ahead of us on the pitch, but a mile in front off it. I know two people who work there - both left Wednesday within weeks of Chansiri arriving. One was in charge of selling executive boxes. Both big Wednesday fans. Both gutted about where we are, but more than happy with their lot at Barnsley. I suppose a lot comes down to the luck of the draw. Most clubs sell out to foreign owners at our level now. Ours is an absolute clown who couldn't run a toffee shop and doesn't care about the fans, whereas Barnsley's seem to have their poo together and realise the importance of getting the fan base on board. In working class towns that is absolutely crucial - we're from one of the biggest working class settlements in the UK and our fans are shafted from every angle. Their owner is a multi-billionaire but refrains from hurling vast amounts at it as he knows it could affect the long-term survival of the club. They need to be sustainable. Like Brentford, they have an actual strategy when it comes to player recruitment. It doesn't consist of 'We'll sign this player for X millions and pray to God it works'. They buy low, sell high, and invest in their infrastructure with the profit. 8 1

FreshOwl
This Barnsley love in though Were in league 1 last year. Have a half decent season and suddenly they’re the new Brentford Remove our points deduction and we’d be 5 points behind. Clearly a team so much better than us aren’t they

Its not just the fates setting a schedule out for clubs to follow. So we can effect the cycle and make ourselves top of it. Or we can sit back and watch this clown drag us further and further down.

It's not even that we are good - we are complete crap from top to bottom, but the people are positively creaming themselves over a team mid-table in the Championship. Let's see what they're doing next season. More often than not, they assemble a half decent side and then end up selling most of them to bigger clubs. The end result is them getting relegated back to League One. We will see if it's different this time. Worth remembering that this brilliantly run club/model only survived last season because Wigan got docked 9 points. stocksyuto
Without reading this thread and to answer the op question it’s because they are more organised and have people who know how to run a club. they profit from players and are well run. They will sell players and strengthen correctly in preseason .

Jack of Clubs
It’s a simple as a coach that has a plan and the players enjoying their football. A little similar to how we’ve been under Thompson but nobody knows how that will end because we have no idea of DCs plans. Very small margins in football.
