Plus Allardyce turned it down because he wouldn't have any control of transfers. So is Bruce going to be quite happy with that, given the fact he apparently specifically made sure with DC that he would have control of transfers.

Said similar re transfers on the first few pages of this thread.

Bruce stated when he joined us, that he wouldn't take a job where he wasn't in full control of recruitment... There may be some truth in the fact that some promises haven't been kept at Wednesday, but even if there is, does he honestly think that it would be any better working for Ashley!?

IF Bruce decided to leave, while I wouldn't hate him for it, it would be abundantly clear that he was just chasing the money and he wouldn't be the principled manager, who insisted on having full control that we all thought he was.

In this scenario, I'd honestly think we'd be better off with the compensation.

Today’s Objectives:

Keep Bruce.

Sell Bruce for £5million.

Line up a replacement manager.

Don’t line up a terrible replacement manager.

Worry about the news that’s coming out next.

Worry if no news comes out.

Announce Palmer 1 year deal.

You forgot another 10 second kit teaser on twitter.

It will be our luck that on the day Bruce leaves, we announce leaving the soft embargo, publish the accounts, announce the two 'secret' signings and Hector's picked up in someone's taxi at the station bound for Hillsborough.

Reading it from the Geordie's angle, Ashley's never paid compensation for a manager. The media keep pushing it, so maybe they know something or maybe they're being sold a story because it could still yet be a smokescreen for some other target? However, they don't seem to have a clue like us. Some are saying Bruce has turned it down, some saying it's done and some suggesting it's some kind of smokescreen. Until something is confirmed one way or the other, I wouldn't believe anything. On the other hand the odds are changing and gathering pace...

£5m sounds a lot, but we have invested heavily in the backroom staff since Bruce came in. 2 experienced assistants, the recruitment team and the new medical fella- all as part of Bruce's project.

It's also an absolutely critical time in terms of player negotiations, the transfer window and pre-season preparation.

Taking all that into account, and considering the top of the game is awash with cash, it actually seems quite cheap.

It needs sorting one way or another asap, along with the off field issues. I hope Bruce stays but if he's going, then get it over and done with because we'll need a replacement, it's disruptive and there's not long till the season starts. I don't think it will be easy to get a suitable replacement.
