Supporting teams other then Wednesday!

Recommended Posts

I always look out and sort of follow Bolton, through living near for years and my lad supports them, Gills since I spent 15 years in Kent, Wycombe, since the days when Martin O'Neill took them up from non league, and AFC Wimbledon because f*ck those pikey c*nts who stole the original club

When we're on holiday in France we go and watch Lorient if they're at home. So we support them financially as well as emotionally. Son gets a shirt each season and we enjoy the game standing with their ultras, even if we don't know any of the words. They're a friendly bunch too once they realised why we were there and who we supported back home.

Don't support any other team, but want other teams to lose, so some would say that's supporting the teams they play. The only team I want to see win every week is Wednesday though.

That’s pretty much me, with watching Malaga when I’m in Spain. I like watching football live, and it’s a good crack in amongst the local hotheads Don’t normally stand with the sizeable ex pat support, amongst who, there are at least a couple of Wednesday fans, preferring to stand with the “Frente Bokeron” ultras. Don’t care for their politics too much, but it’s a good atmosphere

Can't support more than one club, at least at a league level but fine for having teams that you look out for and you'd prefer to win if not playing Wednesday.

I always prefer Yorkshire sides to win with the exception of United and Leeds. Wasn't even too fussed about United going up since they were up against Leeds.

Always look out for Lincoln's results because of Uni.

What seems to have become a new thing in recent years is people supporting teams in other countries. Not just enjoying watching them but up to the stage where their results affect their life. I can't get my head around that. Only Wednesday (or whichever first team you support) should be the only one who causes that emotion IMO.

Each to their own though. Who am I to judge?

Went a couple of weeks ago, they lost to majorca, was a very big English presence in the crowd, St George Cross and a smattering of the 80s types.

I've never understood this sentiment.  The top6 have done all they can to hoard and accumulate wealth at the pointed expense of everyone else in the FL.  They are worse enemies to us than any CL squad from Spain, Italy, et al

The distribution of wealth in the PL is the most even in Europe, hence why it’s so competitive rather than the procession you get in the other major leagues.  You want to see big clubs being greedy & destroying their domestic league - I give you RM, Barca, Juve, PSG, Bayern - all self entitled enemies of fair competition more concerned with the collection of wealth than giving their countries supporters a league worth watchingand destroying it in the process. You use the term “big 6” on a derogatory sense but remember in the EPL there used to be a big two, then a big 4 & now it’s a big 6. That there’s growth that is, in the next decade you could have a big 8,10,12. That’s because the draw of the big clubs drives viewing figures across the world, and the competition from the smaller clubs makes it exciting and gives all PL clubs the ability to invest, improve themselves and grow.  It’s easy to be on the outside & criticise the EPL model but that’s borne out of jealousy mainly and when we get there we’ll love it as much as the rest.

Good man, they have a huge ex pat following, named the “guiri army” including one of Wednesday legend Jimmy Whitaker’s mates, who runs one of the coastal buses to games. At least two Wednesday fans are part of this group. There are then two ultras groups, “Frente Bokeron” right wing leaning, and “Malaka Hinchas” who are mainly socialist. They are a good club, but badly run by the owner

What I didn't mention was that we went in the bar with the George Cross hung outside. I had a pair of Wednesday shorts on and one chap told me it was bad form to wear British colours. Got chatting to him, he was a west ham fan and he was going to the game with his Millwall mates. Said that when they went back to the UK they did not speak to each other.

I often wear a Wednesday beanie to Malaga games, and nobody says anything to me, plus I’ve been known to wear a Malaga training top to Wednesday games. I don’t often drink in those Brit bars, as I find the ex pat Malaga fans a bit geezerish. Fair play to them though, they travel all over, and have been more than helpful getting me tickets and stuff

I can’t even get worked up about Perth Glory. They have a small standing terrace where over 18s are allowed to stand and sing. The fans are (I assume) a set of ex-pats who really support Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal and other miscellaneous teams. The songs are quite good, but I just couldn’t ever ever in a million years join in. Wednesday til I reincarnate... then Wednesday again!
