New contracts - Stobbs and O'Grady

Not seen a great deal of Stobbs. Do people that have seen more of him think he has the talent to make the step up to the first team?

Not really to be honest, could never see him starting regular games for us but you never know. Would expect Penney, Thorniley and Clare to be the ones featuring regularly next season.

It may mean we are cutting back, but as I said last summer, If we don’t rely on traditional wingers as standard (Carlos didn’t and Jos hasn’t so far) then getting Stobbs signed up for the cameos makes more financial sense than paying money to the likes of Buckley, Mcmanaman and Mcgeady only to bench them.

Ogrady is worth keeping for another year and probably would’ve been offered that regardless of the strategy for next year.

Stobbs is strange one for me.

He's never been anywhere near the 1st team. Only getting sniff now due to our injury crisis.

me too ,he got sent back early by port vale who were bottom of league 2 a lot of us were thinking he wouldn't get another club after us,probably ending up in northern premier league or similar .

Maybe this was the long term plan after all, Prem in 2 years or not.

Year 1 - Increase wage bill and add players in their prime, while building U23s in the background.

Year 2 - A real push adding senior players with Prem experience, while developing the best U23s.

Year 3 - Failure to get to the Premier League will result in using the better of the U23s and try to reduce wage bill under FFP restrictions.

Looks like a realistic 3 year plan.

Or maybe it's just been a complete mess and we've ended up with little option.

A very puzzling situation. We're approaching FFP, and are  losing money. We have been complaining of over-paid players who are old, past it and on high salaries. We have been asking for younger players which we have brought through the Youth System.

We get a manager who has, for one reason or another, had to give the younger staff a trial run. We should realise that these younger players will, hopefully, gel into a good side, playing attractive football, something we have been wanting., but what is the first thing we want? Lower prices,  giving us no further cash to invest in the team. Yet w never hear anything about the rise in cost of beer.

Good to get the 3 young lads tied down, especially Thorniley and O'Grady as they won't be on much and I think there's some good potential there. Stobbs has hopefully got over his injury issues and can kick on, expect that O'Grady and Stobbs will go out on loan though at some point. Clare is probably the one closest to being a starting player so hope we can tie him down. With Penney out on loan at Mansfield it's looking good, finally the investment in the youth is paying off.

Old and over paid? Who?

Fletcher is 30. Hardly old. Abdi 31. Albeit a waste of money in hindsight. Westwood

hardly waste of money

we've just played derby who have an average age of 30.8, they're 3rd.
