Carlos says we lost because we didn't defend enough

So Carlos just said that we were winning 1-0 and Norwich got back in the game and won it because we didn't shut up shop and just purely defend

He was insistent that if we'd stuck to being a defensive side we'd not have lost the game

He then went on to say that 3:1 wasn't a fair result

Bizarre

We have turned into the most negative team I have seen. Slow play, low on confidence and no fight. That’s why we lost, they were there for the taking and we let them back in. Only a certain number of saved we can expect Westwood to make as we sit back and invite teams back into the game.

The man is a Spin Doctor, its his job to defend the indefensible. I agree with him, but he had enough time to get the message across. At 1-0 and 1-1 they had the chance to kill the game off with sideways football. If he really believes his own comments you have to question if the players are listening to him.

We were defensively inept in any case.

The guy has shown his true colours, hes not a great manager he has one approch (typical defensive portaguese style) he doesnt know how to change a game except for the worse .

Bizarre is being generous.  That's grade a nonsense.

Said it before and will say it again.

One of the worst Managers in our history. We got to the Playoffs despite him not because of him.

Worst CV.

Worst football.

Worst transfer dealings.

Worst squad building.

Worst press conferences.

Worst scarfs.

Worst shots on target.

Worst coats.

Worst excuses.

So basically he's happy to go 1 up and defend for the rest of the match?

We need a change immediately. His tactics are built to p*ss us off at this point.

He’s absolutely terrified when we have a lead to defend. He thinks we just need to sit back and protect it. He’s done it numerous times. The most high profile one being Huddersfield in the play off semi 2nd leg. They were on the ropes too and we just needed to turn the screw but no we stopped, let them recover and got caught by a sucker punch.

A decent team would have been out of sight by half time. Norwich were a shower last night.

Correct

They were easily the worst team we have faced in years

we actually went on in the second half to give them confidence and belief and went to to lose to them

We lost because we didn't go for the kill when we had them on the ropes first half.

This is it in a nutshell.

There are times when you need to be pragmatic and protect what you've got, but there are times when you need to go for it.

Norwich in the first half were as good as gone. They were hoofing hit & hope balls up front to no avail & their fans were starting to get impatient & turning on the team.

We should have upped the tempo and tried to kill the game there & then, if we'd have conceded whilst going for the throat, so be it.

It was screaming for us to kill the game. Even the Sky commentator said we were sitting back and were therefore playing a dangerous game, which obviously came back to haunt us.

We have done this before on a number of occasions and I agree totally with the comment above and it is this aspect (not individual players, not Adam Reach, not anything else), it is our inability (or refusal) to 'risk' going for it when there is an obvious opportunity to do so.

That game could have been over there & then in that middle period of the first half.

We plodded around, tried to play possession, didn't up the tempo by even 1% and it all panned out in the way myself & everyone else knew it would.

I just find it so odd - what is he so scared of? Surely he must realise that if we sit we’ll likely concede..

We we have a huge squad with enough talent in it..

Is it mindset, continental footy etc etc  - I am baffled

We lost because we showed zero initiative to finish the game off.

It was so predictable what we'd do in the second half i.e. sit back and try and hold onto a one nil win.

Problem is we are appalling defensively, utterly woeful and have been all season. Even a team as poor as Norwich were going to get chances and they did so to deservedly win.

The manager needs to go and the players should be ashamed of themselves. Westwood aside, they were all absolute dross.

Said in the match day thread that normally when a team is losing, they have to bust a gut to go on and win the game.

Norwich did not even break a sweat and still ran out comfortable winners. Let us be fair about it as well, Westwood pulled off a couple of good saves and they missed a sitter at 0-1.

It could have been a much heavier defeat.
