Carlos says we lost because we didn't defend enough

Recommended Posts

It's this kind of infuriating dogshyte that will get CC the boot.

We're 1 up against a team with no confidence, the crowd ready to get on theirs & the managers case & who haven't won at home in ages. So what do we do?!

At one nil up, instead of going all out for a 2nd, to win the game & kill them off & get everyone on their backs, we drop deeper than a turtle's head, invite them on and throw away 3 points with idiotic tactics & a total lack of ambition.

Fkng nonsense CC. Wolves Villa et al would have gone on to win 4-0 yesterday. Wake up FFS!

Anyone note how the players suddenly started to play when 2-1 down.

So flipping predictable.

Sick to the back teeth of the manager and these players putting in a half arsed effort.

Yep

CC was happy to keep Jones in midfield at 1-1, then as soon as Norwich got in front he immediately replaced him with Keiren Lee.

Then he played the ‘lets Throw as many strikers on as we’ve got’ card

So predictable

This is it in a nutshell.

There are times when you need to be pragmatic and protect what you've got, but there are times when you need to go for it.

Norwich in the first half were as good as gone. They were hoofing hit & hope balls up front to no avail & their fans were starting to get impatient & turning on the team.

We should have upped the tempo and tried to kill the game there & then, if we'd have conceded whilst going for the throat, so be it.

It was screaming for us to kill the game. Even the Sky commentator said we were sitting back and were therefore playing a dangerous game, which obviously came back to haunt us.

We have done this before on a number of occasions and I agree totally with the comment above and it is this aspect (not individual players, not Adam Reach, not anything else), it is our inability (or refusal) to 'risk' going for it when there is an obvious opportunity to do so.

That game could have been over there & then in that middle period of the first half.

We plodded around, tried to play possession, didn't up the tempo by even 1% and it all panned out in the way myself & everyone else knew it would.

Exactly. We need a manager with the positive mindset of Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

Drawing 1-1 away against the pigs who were down to 10 men. Carlos would have sat back, inviting them on, trying to protect a point and probably ended up conceding and losing the game.

Johnson? No. Before the game he may have taken a point, but hes got a plan B, he knows full well that United we’re down to 10 men, knows full well that draws kill you in this league and went for it. His centre half no less, scoring an injury time winner. Fortune favours the brave.

Our attacking personnel are far more talented than anyone who lines up our back 4 this season so I don't understand why we set up to rely on defensiveness rather than simply going out each game to outscore our opposition. It would even get him a little more slack because at least then the football would be entertaining.

Defense is just as important as attack

When will he actually realise that we Aren't good enough to defend like that. A second goal would have destroyed them. That is what we used to do

We aren't good enough to defend like that for sure. And the midfield cannot defend either. And the midfield cannot provide enough ammunition for the strikers either.

That was primarily because Norwich unusually for them had something to defend

They were on a horrific run of results and desperately needed to turn it around - so understandably were anxious and dropped deep to defend their goal

Appalling display from us - and the 7-8 man defensive line we had when they attacked - wtf?!?!

Johnson has been a long time admirer of the way we played two seasons ago.

Difference is IMO is that he learnt [the hard way last year with that run of 8 without a win] and developed the style with bite in midfield, pace and two serious and dangerous CBs.

4M for van Aken for a player with only half the qualities needed at CB has been a disaster - yes, he will bring the ball out to build the play allowing Bannan to play higher up the pitch but unlike Flint, is not strong enough to impose himself on the game yet.  Lees is missed and exposes how weak we are right along the back four.

We can all see it, Johnson saw it but CC has ignored if not exacerbated the problem that this side is now mind numbingly slow, devoid of ideas, physically and/or mentally weak and apart from Westwood, Bannan, Hooper and, dare I say it, Big Dave, has no leadership across the pitch or driving force behind it.

We are not far away from the spirit and belief being lost completely and this side and its approach needs freshening up on so many levels...
