If we want to play a high pressing game with our current squad you have to do two things

You have to play Hutch in midfield.

You have to have some security and a fit Hutch is the only midfield player with the mix of athletic ability and steel to hold the fort and cover across the pitch

You have to play your mobile players . Players like Reach Boyd Lee FF Joao and Fletcher

not players like Jones Wallace Rhodes Hooper and I also don't think you can do it if you play Bannan in a midfield two

Agreed, but its a mess isn't it. If we accept, to play a high tempo pressing game, you play Hutchinson, and it's difficult to leave Lee out, then you are short of creativity. The obvious way around that, is what we often reverted to last season, and that was, to use Bannan supplying it from a nominal left wing position. As much as Carlos talks about a more attacking approach, Bannan wide left will still be his default position. If we insist on playing with just two central midfielders, they both have to be combative AND creative.

Genuine question. What sort of wage would Ashley Cole be looking at at Birmingham?

this is nothing more than my own curiosity.

Knowing Redknapp and his ability into fooling the boards of any of the clubs he's been at,whatever it takes would be be my guess.

I can see Hutch and Lee working if FF is out left. He can then take on some of the creative responsibility. Yes we still lose something without Bannan but even with new players you will never have everything. A new creative and combative player will still likely lack Bannan's ball retention qualities. There will always be a compromise somewhere. Players who offer the complete package aren't playing championship football.

Still trying to sort Hutton fee according to Nixon

We better not be.  Given we are apparently near FFP and we are looking to buy Alan Hutton, that would be absolutely barmy. Surely, if we have any money available, this ought to be spent on a centre back.  In the last 3 months of the season, Jack Hunt was excellent.  Any signings brought in now should be to improve the first 11, not as back up.

Wouldn't it just, but you wouldn't put it past us

Imagine having 3 senior right backs, and only 2 centre backs! lol

Alan Hutton would be a good signing as he can cover both positions.  If he does sign he wont be the only incoming

Who says we are close to FFP, oh yea Owlstalk!!

Birmingham have tabled a £5million offer for Bristol City duo Aden Flint and Joe Bryan.

Harry Redknapp wants to strengthen his squad ahead of the season opener against Ipswich on Saturday.

And defensive duo Flint, 28, and Bryan, 23, are two the Blues manager wants to add to his squad this week.
