Recon this ffp business is aimed more at telling other clubs we aint going to pay over the odds for players rather than dc tightening the purse strings.

Kev isn't at the training ground today.

He's had a change...hes pmd me that the gold elephants are at a pop shop in attercliffe getting appraised.

Could be but we're leaving it late if we want to hit the ground running. Plus on the one hand we could be waiting for better quality or making sure we get value for money but it could also mean missing out on quality and possibly ending up having to make a desperation signing instead. But whoever we bring in, needs to be quality and needing just a quality centre back, hopefully we will bring at least one in before the opening game or before the window closes. However, leaving it late means we might not hit the ground running and might have to play catch up again.

Happens every year due to transfer window, nothing new.

Yeah, wish they would do away with them or have a manager window too. Just wish all this FFP and parachute payment nonsense would be done away with too or made fairer by increasing the 3 year period amount for the non parachute payment clubs to equal the amount the clubs coming down receive.

Indeed, yet some of our fans are panicking and targeting mis-management.

No, of course it is, and I'm certainly not disappointed in a 4th placed finish Overall though, I think we did stall a bit, we may have finished 4th, but the previous season we'd actually reached the play off final. Throw in, no cup runs, and a complete lack of entertainment, and perhaps there wasn't much progress made, certainly not for the money invested. Merely speculating on ways we can improve on that this season

I think having watched against teams that get in our face ,we need some bottle all over the pitch ,the rangers match demonstrated this in buckets

Bottle for a battle is why CC loves Wallace and (possibly) why we didn't beat Udders in the play off home leg.

Boyd is a busy buzzer too and though he isn't creative like FF I can see a Boyd Lee Bannan Wallace arrangement happening away from home with FF or Abdi linking with one up front.

That said, Having been in wonderland football wise a mere 12 months ago I think if CC insists on 4:4:2 he may as well play Wilko style and have two up front with Lee and Boyd running on to knock downs from Winnall and Fletcher (1st half) Rhodes and Hooper (2nd). We don't need a new centre half in that system, we just need to "gerrit forrud"

How are we near FFP - allowed losses of £39m over a 3 year period? last two years accounts total c. £14.5m, giving headroom of £25m.   Would need to be a big loss in 2017? Know we've signed a few but transfer fees are spread over life of a contract and not all taken in the year.

Must be a lot on wages for the likes of Fletcher, Abdi, Jones and an improved Forestieri deal. Think this is where we may come undone offering big wages for some that we could find hard to shift - Fletcher and Jones especially.

So we are definitely after a CB and RB if everything is to be believed. With us being close to FFP do you think loans are the only option to get quality in?

If so, would Jon Flanaghan be a good option for RB on loan? Liverpool let him out on loan last season so they're not averse to it.

We could get better quality with loans anyway.

We're not really close to FFP sanctions, it's a bit of a fib.

In terms of the full back positions...wouldn't most agree that left back would be more of a priority?

I mean Hunt was pretty good in the last few months of the season and Palmer is able, albeit somewhat limited, back up.

Left back though...

Pudil was horrendous for the first 6 months, utterly woeful. Thought he did improve quite a bit in the latter stages of the season, but when he's bad he is gets hopelessly exposed.

Fox...still very young and might improve. Not sold yet.

Matt Penney is a super little left back, should be involved very soon.

Shhhh, don't let on. We are supposed to be skint. How can we get a bargain if you keep giving the game away. Repeat after me... Close to FFP, no money for fees. How much? You 'avin' a laugh.

As much as everyone is sh*tting their pants at the centre half situation, lets not forget that the current set up has equalled the club record for clean sheets in the last 3 seasons.

Our major problems lie in the fact that we don't have a system that can get the best out of the embarrassment of riches that we currently have in attack

Very good point...though in one of those record breaking seasons we produced some of the best attacking football that's been seen at S6 in a generation.

If only we could somehow strike a balance between CC's first and second season.
