I think there's a massive insurance issue with doing that. Gets messy.

Agree, just look at Scott Hogan.

Beholder
Only posting because it's relevant but looks like b0ll0x WAGES QUADRUPLED AS ASTON VILLA AGREE EXTRAORDINARY TERMS WITH MIDFIELDER – REPORT FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmailShare 15th January, 2017, 9:37 AM By Harry Sykes Aston Villa have agreed the terms of a contract with Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane, according to a report. The Sun claim the Midlands giants have gone to “extraordinary lengths” on personal terms to win the race for the signature of the Irishman. It is said that Villa have agreed a contract worth £28,000-a-week with Hourihane, which will quadruple his current deal with Championship rivals Barnsley. The Sun report that Villa are set to beat Sheffield Wednesday to the signing of Hourihane after both clubs lodged bids of £1.25million for the 25-year-old, who is out of contract at Oakwell at the end of the season. The midfielder is one of the most prolific players in his position in the Championship, with his 26 appearances this season yielding a remarkable 12 assists and five goals. Hourihane has been the standout player in Barnsley’s rise over the last two seasons, scoring 11 goals and supplying 17 assists in 53 appearances as they secured promotion from League One last season. Villa chiefs have made it clear they are working on a number of major deals this month as they aim to win promotion at the first attempt. However, their hopes suffered a blow on Saturday evening when they lost 1-0 to big rivals Wolves at Molineux. Football Insider verdict: Villa’s defeat at Wolves on Saturday evening showed why they must push the boat out to land Hourihane this month. Bruce’s side are still in with a change of making the top six, but desperately need to increase their flimsy goal output. They are crying out for a playmaker to dictate the play and that is exactly what the Barnsley man can add. Hourihane has proven already this season that he is lethal in the Championship and would be a good fit for Villa. The 25-year-old scores and creates, and has the stats to die for. He would be a great addition to Bruce’s promotion hopefuls.

StudentOwl
Clearly just a regurgitation of The Sun article and passed off as some sort of exclusive. I'll only believe it after HITC report it
Owls2k
If we're in a shooting battle over money with Villa we'll lose. If family and location is a factor we will stand a chance. Just to clarify, a 3 1/2 year contract on the quoted wages of £28,000 per week is worth just over £5 million to the player before tax, crazy for a player who has made 15 Championship appearances. swfc1983
£28,000 a week is a lot of money for a player who won't necessarily be first choice, perhaps think maybe there might be better value out there...Josh Vela from Bolton would be a decent shout IMO.
