Completely gutted to hear this news.

Met Tony on a few occasions when he was at Wednesday. He lived in Worrall, and was a regular in the Shoulder of Mutton, which was my local back in the day. He would always have a pint and chat with fans and had a fantastic sense of humour. Quite often you would wander in and find Jack Charlton propping up the bar with Tony. He used to tell dome reyt stories of his time in the Commando's.

Was once talking to him about the training methods at Wednesday  and how the players dealt with his sessions up on the moors, his reply was " my sessions are nothing complicated, I run them till they throw up, then i run them some more."

Thoroughly nice bloke with a vice like grip of a handshake.

RIP BIG MAN.

Mate of mine..who was pretty athletic and did running and weight training went to a training session with him...sure it was for Wednesday fans at the ground, but can't remember...He told me he was throwing up after half an hour...He asked me if I wanted to go to the next one....

Dunno if he went or not lol

Seem to remember him coming into the Shoulder one night, there was 2" of snow on the ground yet he turned up in flip flops and shorts.  I have an image of him stood at the bar with a little dog cradled in one hand and a pint in the other.  RIP TT

Remember 1976 when he took the team overnight on the moors in freezing weather - playing at home and players having a 'phycological block' was even being churned out then:

We need to move..the ground is like a curse. It gets into the minds of players (apart from the opposition)

My dad went to his keep fit sessions in the gym at Hillsborough, be around 76, 77 , my abiding memory though is me and my brother playing football on the pitch in almost total darkness and the buzz we got from it taking penalties at the kop end with a small strip light behind the net .

Thank you Tony for not tellin us to get off the pitch , RIP big man x
