Regarding the 'easy' path we're supposed to have had, in 2016 France reached the final having played 6 home games against Romania, Albania, Switzerland, Ireland, Iceland and Germany. Their opponents, Portugal, got there having faced Iceland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Poland and Wales.

Average World ranking of the 3 teams Italy have played in the knockout rounds:

10th (who happen to be Denmark)

Average ranking of England’s 3 opponents:

15th (which is Colombia)

Hardly a chasm of difference.

You beat what is in front of you.

We've played two pretty good sides in these knockout stages in Denmark and Germany.

We also battered Ukraine who were having a solid tournament.

I was in Catania for the Tunisia v England World cup game in 2018 and the whole bar of Italians I was in were all supporting England. Albeit they hadn't qualified. There was certainly no hate, they were very complimentary. A lot of them looked rough as **** too it was quite a 'hardcore ultra' sort of bar.

Italians I know love English football and, by extension, the national team.

Although, your Tunisia example in Catania was possibly accentuated by much of the south of Italy having a dislike of North Africa.

Tbf, using social media as the barometer for all people's views is a bit risque.

You're always going to find the angry oddballs on there.

Some people will hate England, some will like us and some won't give a throw either way.

If this were Wednesday and they were up against a team on a (losing, not scoring, generally failing) streak, we all know the outcome.

Ergo, and this is the (not so serious) analytical point, England will end Italy's unbeaten streak on Sunday at Wembley.

Wednesday are the barometer for world football lol
