As he ages, we're just going to grind to a halt on the pitch. Best days are so far behind him now that we should have let him move on.

Exactly, the way to improve the team is definitely to get rid of the best player first.

For some players there are more important things than earning an extra bit of cash.  Bannan will have been pretty well compensated during his career and if he's settled in the area, then fair play to him.

What we need now is the right partner in midfield for him, and we've needed that since the play off final but that discussion has been done to death.

All in all, good news I think.

'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results

Yesterday we had a thread with people dismayed that Bannan's contract is coming to end and we will lose him for nothing. A fair few in the thread refused to believe he was likely to sign a new deal and were critical of the club for it.

Today he signs a 2-year extension and the same people are critical of this.

Plenty to be critical of the club for but some refuse to see anything good at times.

What's happened here is we have bent over to give a 31 year old a long contract. Dangerous and costly.

However he is a good player and good guy so obviously at the moment that's all fine. But instead of investing money and wages into younger up and coming players we'll probably always prioritise this sort of deal.

Any evidence we’ve bent over?

We haven't held him captive, he has had freedom of choice in this decision!
