Wakey wakey. No it didn't. Take a look at football squads from all other 92 clubs in the Football League - 100% will have a goalkeeper as number 1 - why? 95% will have a right-back as number 2 - why? 95% will have a left-back as number 3 - why? 90% of players with a number from 1-11 will have that number based on what position they play on the field - because of TRADITION. How many other clubs have a goalkeeper as number 2? Wakey wakey.

Ian
For all of you saying its not an issue, think back to 1993.....David Hirst wore the No.5 shirt in the FA Cup final and we lost. The reason we lost was nothing to do with chocolate wrists in the net and purely down to Hirsty wearing number 5 Unless Fletcher is playing standing on his head (which admittedly will be an improvement on last years number 9) then we are doomed! BD2OWL
They really should just bring back 1-11 and if you got one them shirts you should count yourself lucky. That said, I was attached to number 9, that is the number I wore all my playing days. This will matter less with time, kids now chose a number based on their favourite player at the time, this changes yearly so no biggy, they won't get attached. Standidno
I can understand a player maybe being unhappy with a number but a fan? If if your a fan unhappy about a number, someone's else's number, you need to get out more. There's a lot more things to get unhappy about. Benjani
The numbers of the shirts doesn't bother me one bit really, it's quite funny and something to talk about for once as squad numbers are usually announced with minimal fuss. BUT if it's causing a bit of upset amongst players then that isn't ideal, if true there have been arguments over it, hence the delay in announcing the numbers, then it's an issue that didn't need to be created by giving random numbers. Its clearly superstition with Chansiri though.

DevOwls Advocate
Chansiri asked one of his advisers what method he should use to pick lucky squad numbers. The response was... Then he got out the machine and there you have it. Only explanation!
BarnsleyOwl96
Not sure how it matters Wildsmith might play a dozen games anyway. Fletcher being number 6 seems strange but maybe he requested it? Also could mean a few incomings on the way!
