Squad Numbers

Wildsmith being number 2 makes perfect sense.

Goalkeeper is number one.

Who is his back up? Oh it's that fella over there, the number two. Who? The bloke with the number 2. Comes after 1. Backup.

Stop being a wet fanny Kivo.

I like it as well. They're going to be the first two names on the team sheet so makes sense to give them the first two numbers, means the keeper will always be read out first on the team sheet as well.

Its nothing to do with Thailand and the 'tradition' of Nos 1-11 finished years ago when football became a squad game. Whilst i would personally rather see 1-11, i think we just have to accept that many players might like their 'odd' No for personal reasons and want to stick with them, Its who wears the shirt not what No is on it that counts !!

The chairman picked the numbers, not the players.

Well I was unhappy as was many others I've spoken too. Goalkeepers don't wear number 2. They wear 1 or 13 if they are the second choice

Unhappy about a shirt number.  Really?

Players wear what ever number they either choose or agree with the club / manager.

Incorrect.

The first two names on the team sheet are the lowest two numbers in the starting line-up.

Joe Wildsmith isn't a right back.

No, they've been given a number by the chairman - several of the players are unhappy about it.

That was batshit crazy too - how they played on the field is irrelevant.

No, the squad numbers are irrelevant. How they play on the field is.

tradition went out of the window with squad numbers years ago (20+ years).

the whole squad numbrer thing is irrelevant.

There are plenty of traditions we still adhere to

Wednesday play in blue and white (well, we used to) that's tradition - playing in pink and green hoops wouldn't have an effect on how we play but it's our tradition.

I find it baffling how there are people that have supported the chairman on EVERY insane decision he has made over the last year.

Just for absolute clarity -

1 - Goalkeeper, no-one else
2 - Right-back. At a stretch, a right-sided centre-back if you're playing with a back three
3 - Left-back. At a stretch, a left-sided centre-back if you're playing with a back three

4 - Defensive midfielder or right-sided centre-back

5 - Centre-back, no-one else

6 - Defensive midfielder or left-sided centre-back

7 - Right winger, no-one else

8 - Central midfielder

9 - BIG MAN UP TOP

10 - Little man partnering the big man, or midfield maverick who doesn't track back

11 - Left-winger

All of the above are 100% set in stone, and if any player takes a number and doesn't fit the above conditions he needs to be absolutely world class.

People who can wear numbers outside the above conditions -

4 - Nwankwo Kanu, in fact, scrap that, nobody.

5 - Zinedine Zidane

7 - Eric Cantona

8 - Chris Waddle

4+5 should be CBs

Do you think we will score more rouges if we revert back to 1-11?

How do you know?  Have you asked him?  Have you asked the players?

I'm sure there unhappiness will subside when they check their bank balance.

Was gunna say I remember that Gyan wore 3 when he was at Sunderland and he was a striker. Look over in Serie A when they have players with the likes of No.70 etc
