Leicester City FC has unveiled details of plans to build a new East Stand to raise the King Power Stadium capacity by 8,000 seats to 40,000.

The new stand will also be accompanied by a nearby hotel and indoor arena.

As well as a stunning new stand with an illuminated diagrid roof, the club’s owners also plan to build a 220-room hotel and a multi-purpose 6,000 standing capacity indoor arena linked to the stadium by an elevated walkway.

There are also proposals for a new Leicester City retail space, residential and commercial space, as well as a multi-storey car park.

The East Stand will be built on land that is currently the club car park as well as the National Grid building.

The stand has been designed to allow construction to take place while the existing stadium remains operational.

Plans will be submitted this autumn in the hope of gaining planning next spring.

Subject to planning it is hoped construction work could start before the end of the 2022-23 season. The earliest anticipated date for completion is the third quarter of 2024.

In a statement with the launch of public consultation on the proposals, the club said “developments will further underline Leicestershire’s reputation as a home of world-class sport and create a 365-day destination that will support the regeneration of an area that has been the home of the Football Club for 130 years.”

Could be the best ground in the Championship, wonder what their attendances will be now.

The Anfield redevelopment is genuinely impressive. Looks amazing and will probably end up looking better than what a new build bowl would have. Can understand why United fans are so annoyed at the Glazers leaving Old Trafford at the state it's in when you see what Liverpool are doing.

Looking at what Liverpool have done as well as villa, Newcastle and others have done convinces me that redevelopment of hillsborough is our best option long term. If we went with a new stadium we end up with a soulless bowl or we go the whole hog like spurs but end up with a huge stadium that other than football gets little use, we wouldn’t get American football, the big fights or concerts a stadium in London would. Build up hillsborough bit by bit and do it so we could expand further if we ever needed to and we can have a stadium that fulfills our needs and could get some non football events but would retain its character and keep a vital part of our heritage

Fill the corners in and Hillsborough would look very different.  That's what I'd be looking at.

I'll go past Everton's ground on the train home later. I'll try to get a picture.

Now they have the extra finance agreed you've got to expect the buyouts and regeneration of the surrounding area will begin soon.

I know someone close to the club and apparently Leicester have purchased a lot of land around the stadium to open it up for fan zones, pubs, restaurants and a Wembley Way style approach. What use any of that has now in the Championship is anyone's guess but there are some huge clubs in this division now (or massive if you will). The above would explain Leicester last few transfer windows and their lack of spending.

you can make quite a nice living being a top championship team and having other big championship teams visiting. Theyre a one club city so they can guarantee 30,000 a week with a modicum of success

Hotel plans moving forward at Tynecastle for Hearts now too. Should make some decent money for the club once completed with the stadium being walking distance to Edinburgh city centre which is a huge tourism and cultural hub. The infrastructure improvements at Hearts in recent years really have been very impressive.
