AFL Architects has submitted plans for a 16,000-seat stadium near Kidlington for Oxford United FC.

The scheme would be the UK’s first all-electric stadium and would be part of a wider mixed-use development including a 180-room hotel.

A conference centre, event space and a health and wellbeing centre would also be built under the plans, which have been lodged with Cherwell district council.

The League One club’s history would be incorporated into design features, including a modern interpretation of the landmark arch at the Manor Ground, where it used to play its home games before the site was sold and turned into a hospital 20 years ago, at the entrance.

Oxford United development director Jon Clarke said the submission of a full planning application was a “significant milestone” for the club.

“We have taken the opportunity to create something truly incredible that not only places the visitor experience at its heart but is sustainable and will deliver huge benefits to our community and economy,” he said.

It comes after Oxfordshire county council granted consent for the club to lease land known as the Triangle for the stadium scheme.

The club’s lease at its current 12,500-seat Kassam Stadium, where it has been based since 2001, ends in 2026.

This is interesting. Is it on an old airfield near Kidlington? We used to do a huge business show exhibition in 2 large marquees on that site, if it’s the same one. Just down the road from Woodstock & Blenheim Palace & up the road from the Pear Tree interchange on the A34. Lovely area.

Only problem with the new Oxford ground is that if anythng it's even further out from the centre of Oxford than the current one is. At least it looks like there's a likelihood of a local rail link, but as home fans are likely to need it as well as away fans it could get a bit hectic.

Notts County Submit Planning Application To Develop Fanzone And Event Space

Notts County Football Club have submitted a planning application to Nottingham City Council for the development of a best‑in‑class fanzone and event space next to Meadow Lane stadium.

image.png.040fc7a071c8671e986626739a8fe2df.png

Subject to approval, the plans will transform the matchday experience on offer to supporters with a giant screen, state‑of‑the‑art sound system, large bar area and street food vendors making it the perfect matchday destination.

The venue will also prove invaluable on non‑matchdays, providing a fantastic space for our charitable arm, Notts County Foundation, to deliver and develop their range of projects while also allowing the club to provide a variety of events to the local community throughout the year.

Previously occupied by East Midlands Fabrications, the site of the proposed development is located on Iremonger Road and shares a boundary with the Derek Pavis car park. It offers 12,000 square feet of indoor space and also has a large outdoor area.

The Club’s chief executive, Joe Palmer, said: “After many months of planning, we’re excited to bring news of this major project to our fans and the wider community.

“With an average attendance of over 11,000, and work ongoing to drive even higher crowds in the months and years ahead, it was imperative that we sought to provide our growing fanbase with the exciting matchday experience they deserve.

“At present we’re unable to offer adequate food, beverage and entertainment facilities but, with these plans, we can look forward to providing one of the very best fanzones in the country – similar to Wembley’s Boxpark, where many of our supporters were accommodated for last summer’s play‑off final.”

“I’d like to thank Nottingham City Council for their guidance and cooperation and we look forward to updating supporters in due course.”

How do you normally do on a match day? And do you do anything with the club already or anything related to the football?

Suppose it can go either way can't it.. either it attracts a load more pre-match/drinking footfall or it takes away what you've got!

Might have to start selling wings served by lasses in tight shirts..

For County games we do very well, Forest less so but still worth our while. Taproom income covers our rent basically.

We've had custom from County before but they're pretty hard to work with, and in the past haven't looked after our beer very well (lack of a proper cellar at the stadium itself, served by young staff without experience as per Hillsborough). And of course football fans aren't trusted with glass bottles!

Would be great if the fan zone started taking our wares, but suspect they'll make more money selling Carling and such, in which case hopefully people will still be drawn to us in the search for better quality ales

I actually used to live in a flat directly above Hooters and spent an awful lot of time in there. For the food, obvs.

Interesting!

From County's perspective I think it's a shrewd way of competing for the attention of the City, by just completely maximising the match day experience as best they can.

Buying up that land across the road from the Kop and having a Boxpark style space is just one of the many things I hoped might happen when DC arrived here, but alas..

Sound like a club with a plan unlike some.😠

But be careful what wish you wish for, Stockport can do it because they are near Manchester, could rebuild in the lower leagues or insert utter testicles reason as to why we can't and haven't invested in infrastructure for near 30 years

18k seems a tad ambitious for a club that hasn't even had a 5 figure average attendance for more than 70 years.

Sounds a bit Darlingtony

They are pretty much at full capacity for every home game and as they progress through the leagues the demand for tickets will be higher than their current capacity.

That's more of an "if" than an "as"!

Will the fans currently turning up when they're doing well but were nowhere to be seen before last season (about 50% of their current attendees) keep going long term?  Last time they were in the Championship they were getting 6-7k, yes they'd get more now but they're still way off getting to that level.

You'd be amazed how many more people want to go to watch football in a nice environment.
