Sunderland fan in peace

Recommended Posts

Don’t post much but I was talking to my Dad about this game and I think he made a few valid points.

Generally we felt it was too close to call and it’ll come down to fine margins. We agreed that we are slightly the better team, more balanced and less reliant on 1/2 individuals for goals.

BUT

And this is the fine margin that may count, of the two managers, we agreed that whilst Moore has done a good job on us and has turned things around he is a bit too nice. Neil seems a bit more wiley, more likely to get them well up for it and more likely to use dark arts to get an advantage when required. Moore may just be a bit too nice and honest.

Hopefully we are wrong but on balance we felt Sunderland might just edge it due to this and a strong start at theirs that they hold on to at ours, similar to our games v Brighton a few years back.

My 2nd team is Sunderland. Used to watch them back in the day at Roker Park. Lawrie McMenemy days. Marco Gabbiadini, Eric Gates, Gary Bennett etc. My mate at work was a Mackem. He used to come and watch us, and I went over to watch you lot.

His family would come over from Sunderland when you played us at Hillsborough too. I was actually at the game when Sunderland won the old league three.

Sorry but on this occasion, it has to be a Wednesday win though.

Yeah that's around the era I first started watching Sunderland.

Back in the 1985 season and then on the old division 3 as you say.

I honestly can't call it.

We are ok at defending. Against Pompey a few seasons ago we beat them 1-0 at our place and just held out down there.  Not  great to watch.   But you do what you need too

Neil's PNE team were horrible to play against, but then his Norwich team were the complete opposite.

Perhaps he is one of those who sort of adapts to what he has at his disposal.

I get your point though. We need to be a bit wise and not get bullied should Sunderland decide that's a way of getting to us.

Funnily enough, no such worries if Lee Johnson is still in charge.

For fans travelling to the Stadium of Light I would also recommend The Hilton Hotel right next to stadium. Its not the cheapest pint but perfectly placed right opposite the stadium and like everywhere else, away fans are welcome. Once before they've closed the public bar to everyone apart from guests but there's nothing on their website to say they are doing this on Friday.

Don't know about everyone else but I'm as nervous as hell now and it's still 3 days to go!!!

Should also be said that the division will be a tad easier for whoever doesn't go up if the other does.

League One isn't going to get any easier imo. Derby coming down and then you've got the Dingles and Posh who are serial league one promotion specialists, a bit like the two who just went up.

Morning All.

As the title says.  I come in peace.

Just wondering your views on our upcoming games.   2 huge clubs who should not be in this league.

Disappointed with the respective away allocations.  And would hope that's more down too the sag and local police.  I believe the winners of our game will win at Wembley.

Welcome mate, away supporters are always welcome on here, we have a few that keep returning every so often

Like many people will have said, this would have made a good final

Always had plenty of time for Sunderland supporters, apart from your kit of course

I consider Sunderland to be the only club outside the premier bigger than ourselves

Both clubs have a great history

As for the game itself, I think it will be won or lost in the first game

If you come to Hillsborough with a lead, I'm not confident we can overturn it

If we don't win then I hope Sunderland go up

Whoever loses the tie, I hope they smash the division next season

Thank you mate.

Same is said and genuinely meant.  If you beat us over the 2 games.  I hope you go and smash the final.

Again 2 huge clubs and don't deserve to be at this level. But poor management has seen to that pal

For both clubs there is the horrible prospect of being 2 divisions below our biggest rivals next season

Admittedly more of a long shot in our case and wont be new to Sunderland fans in recent years but on that basis alone, I do hope neither team in red and white have anything to celebrate over next few weeks

Best of luck for next season though !

You're not on your own mate.

I was nervy V Pompey, even at 3-1 up, until the MK Dons score came up.

Still it beats being a Man City fan when it comes as a crushing disappointment cos you draw at home instead of hitting 7.

Nah it doesn't really does it lol

Its a tough one to call. Im sure we can make a case why either should win.

As you will know from the encounters this season we can both score goals and concede them.

For me the telling point could be what defenders we have to choose from. At SoL our defence was threadbare. I dont think we expect it to be that frail on Friday but if we can select Storey, Dean and Gibson (with Hutchinson as back or in place of one these 3) and they are properly fit we will be a different proposition than if we have to rely on something more makeshift. All those 3/4 are decent level Championship defender and with a good level of experience in playing in big games (Gibson arguably the least experienced).

Bannan will be a loss if not fit but provided Luongo, Byers and Dele-Bashiru are fit I think we can be confident we are OK, especially if Windass is available to come on in the 2nd half.

It promises to be a great game. Priobably be two 0-0s now! (I somehow doubt it though)

Try our message board mate.

Apologies in advance for some idiots on there.  But we all have them in our fan base.   Ha.

You'll be absolutely fine in any of the pubs then mate.

The Wheatscheaf is a decent sized pub and usually get away fans in.  And if you are there in good time.  Ample street parking near-by

Yeah, we have plenty in our fan base too. Probably starting with me lol

Cheers for the heads-up on the pubs. Mentioned it to my mates and it looks like we'll be getting the urine extracted by the comedian in the Wheatsheaf.

I’ve liked Sunderland since they beat Leeds in “73…..l hope we beat you though lol

Great upset that

That save from Montgomery after Lorimer hit it, you sort of knew Sunderland were going on to win it

I bet 99% of the country cheered

I don’t think there is much between the 2 teams. Both are better sides than they showed in their respective away fixtures.

I think Sunderland are favourites simply due to having the home leg first. Both sides are strong at home and average away.

That said even though Sunderland are on a good run, we’re in a very good place. The fluent style of play has bedded down and I believe our greater attacking threat all over the pitch will edge the tie. Shame both sides couldn’t get promoted.
