Today’s trialist: Tariq Uwakwe

Recommended Posts

The more players we sign that the average fan cannot pronounce, the less likely they are to shout their name and slag them off.

Let’s slagging = confidence playing at Hillsborough = wins.

The root of our problems, as we’ve been told for years.

It's a good plan, but football fans will always find a way 🤣 ....

Guest Jack the Hat

Scored a hat trick in the Papa Johns Trophy, so could be vital if we are to steer past the mighty 'Arrogate! Pizza p155.

Like the look of him and his mentality. I’d happily have him as part of the squad.

Like so many people this past year, it must have been damn hard for many loanees  playing away from any family or friends. Lots have had that network severed due to covid. Young lad living away from home, can’t have been easy. Hopefully if we do end up bringing in several loans they are looked after and made to feel part of the team and city.

I remember in the Sunderland documentary, they had a lad on loan. Think he was injured for a while, talking about how he was struggling, you could see all was some friends there and he wasn’t getting it in that environment. The bloke looked very depressed and could have been helped.

I have no idea if Uwakwe would be a good signing, but if we discounted players based solely on where they'd previously been on loan, we'd never have signed Antonio. I mean...Colchester United for god's sake!

Ross Barkley was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday FFS!

There is only one way to judge players and that is based on what they do for your club, not what they have done previously.

Lee Chapman was an out of favour and out of form striker who had failed at his two previous clubs yet was absolutely brilliant for us.

Imre Varadi had, had more clubs than a golf bag by the time he first signed for us yet was absolutely brilliant.

Brian Marwood came from Hull (who the hell were they at that time?)

Carl Shutt came from the pub leagues (literally)

Lawrie Madden anyone?

We binned off Jamie Vardy

What about Jeffers, Slothroyd, etc., etc., etc.?

Forestieri, one good season then a waste of time and money

Fletcher too many injuries, same with Hooper

Rhodes (need I say more)

It goes on and on and on.

The only thing that matters is what they do for us when they pull that shirt on. There have been plenty of signings who didn't inspire confidence that were brilliant and plenty that on paper that were brilliant that turned out meh! It's called football.

We are now extremely limited in what we can sign but at least DM seems to have a clear plan. If he can get the blend right and we (for once) get a few lucky breaks who knows?

It is a known fact that many PL Clubs have large squads, and like to send them out to lower league clubs on loan in orrder that they gain experience of competitive football. We have advocated sending our young players out on loan, but, and it is a large but, surely the receiving club must have a look at the players before theyaccept tem on loan, hence 'Trialist'

Last season in all competitions 21 games 4 goals and 4 assists, he seems quite useful

The difference between Uwakwe and our last loanee from Chelsea Izzy Brown....

Uwakwe is 21, his glass ceiling hasn't been reached. Pushing to get the most out of his career. A trait I like about Dennis Aderinan also.

Brown at 24, seemed like he started to know his level. Never performed for us, never looked like a future Chelsea starter.

3 years age difference between them and a big 3 years in the career of a footballer.

The 'big' teams have a huge turnover of players in their youth teams, very few of them make it to be top players. Even the highly regarded ones often end up making a career in the lower leagues or just disappear.

Chelsea have been winners of the F.A. youth cup several times in recent years. Izzy Brown was one of the best players in their 2014 and 2015 winning teams. The most successful players from those 2 years have probably been Abraham, Loftus-Cheek, Solanke and Tomori.

Uwakwe played in the 2017 youth cup winning team. I suppose time will tell whether he will have a good career in football.

Most of that team have spent time on loan to EFL clubs. Some still are and some have made it to Chelsea's first team, James, Mount, Hudson-Odoi. Guehi was excellent on loan at Swansea last season and has just signed for Crystal Palace.

Lewis Baker who we had on loan in in 2015 was one of the stars of their 2012 F.A. Youth Cup winning team. He's still at Chelsea and has been loaned out to 8 different clubs in the last 6 years
