edmontonowl
Overall his managerial winning percentage is 38.5%, which isn't much different to Jos (40.4%). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Bruce In his last 2 jobs over a total of 303 matches: At Villa it was 45.1% (102 matches) At Hull it was 40.8% (201 matches). That's not bad And if you want to compare to some of the best: Mourinho 64.8% Ferguson 58.1% Wenger 54% Klopp 50.4% Pochettino 46% (56.6% at Spurs) Edited December 21, 2018 by edmontonowl

Think we need to be sure about the next move but for now Im just happy jos has left the building. Yes, having no manager at all is an improvement. I think that was his downfall - almost an embarrassment of riches. He'll not have that problem with us

striker
It's a lot of money, suspect may have some bonus elements built in, but just the type of experienced manager we need. Hugely experienced, established backroom team, good in the transfer market and importantly would have stipulated control in this area to balance the squad. I also think he wouldn't put off potential buyers, the type of appointnrnt over Jos which makes the club more attractive. Think it will help DC to have a proper manager in place, less for him to lose sleep over and hopefully an upturn in results will improve everyone's mood. Paul..
Always rated Bruce as a manager and always hoped he'd manage us at some point, if he's appointed he definitely gets my backing.

S36 OWL
One thing Bruce brings is a vast amounts of contacts in the premier league , which can only be a positive when it comes to trying to get the best young players on loan.
optimisticowl
Anyone know how much Jos was on? I reckon that £2 million p/a must be par for the course in respect of a good tried and tested manager at this level, I just wonder if a new management team might attract a prospective buyer, Jos was hardly an asset in this area was he? Beauchief Owl
Why, when we have cash constraints, would you offer more than he got at Villa? Two million! There's got to be better value out there. The Cowley's for example.

Bruce failed at Villa with a better squad and more funds. He has yet to prove he can be successful on tight financial constraints, but you're right any choice is taking a chance. Think you have to take into account the circumstances at the club. Warnock could get Cardiff to 4th from bottom this season. Pep Guardiola Man City could finish 2nd. Pep would have a better win ratio but Warnock would have a much better season.

We have far to many people who only interested in supporting the club when the going is good. When its not so good they become high and mighty voicing over social media about every decision thats been made in the past with the massive benefit of hindsight. We should be happy our chairman loaded and wants what most of us want (promotion) and is willing to spend. People wanting him out just because he has made honest mistakes which even he has admitted want to be very careful what they wish for. When was the going good ??? ..1991? owls maniac
Bruce would be the most qualified person to take the managers role at SWFC in a long long time. Would be an excellent appointment. People who bring up Villa- how many good managers has that job seen off? RDM won the champions league and couldn’t make a success of it. Poisoned chalice.
