Steve Bruce offered £2million to take over Sheffield Wednesday top job

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are offering Steve Bruce a stunning £2million-a-year contract to tempt him back into management.

The Owls want promotion specialist Bruce to take charge and hope that the salary package will prove they mean business.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri sacked Dutch coach after a horror run of results and wants Bruce in as soon as possible.

Bruce wanted time to decide and assurances on the club’s financial plans before committing - but the deal on offer is better than he was paid at Aston Villa.

Chansiri is pushing the boat out for Bruce DESPITE revealing that he would sell the club if the right offer comes in.

Those bizarre remarks came as Chansiri was trying to thrash out a deal with Bruce. But the move is still on.

Owls may bizarrely bring in Bruce’s backroom team of Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence first.

They would be followed by the new manager after he takes a scheduled holiday break.

Bruce has been affected by the loss of both parents and wanted to spend Christmas and New Year with his family.

More to follow...
