He was a bit too nonchalant for my liking last night.

Some very questionable passes.

I have said the same about him from the start.

It can be a good thing-his debut he oozed confidence and didn’t look overawed one bit.

He did the basics well and rightly got the plaudits

Then he’s seemed like he’s a bit to sure of himself without having anything to back it up. His defensive displays have been poor and his crossing has been as bad as we are unfortunately used to.

The only things he did right last night were two good cross field passers

Not read the whoke thread but so far my take on Penny is that hes a young kid that could do well however if that was fox putting in his shift last night he wouldve been ripped to bits because hes not one of our own, Penny had a shocker and hasnt been decent for a while ...take him out and give him a break.

Whilst I don't rate Boyd, he's nowhere near the team. We seem to be experimenting with the set ups, formation and players rather than having a fixed team. Seems like pre-season at the moment. I never known so many professional players seemingly frozen out of the club. People often point to their attitude etc. but surely this is all about good management. These players are costing us a pile of cash each week, whilst we watch the likes of Penny, Dawson and Thorniley make mistakes in the name of development?

Doesn't stop the owner charging 40 odd quid for the pleasure tho.

I'd forgotten about boyd, is he injured?

Penney has been so disappointing after his first couple of performances.

He might do better in a flat back four and the same can be said for Palmer.

I find it baffling leaving out Onomah who I thought played really well against West Brom & Bristol City.

A flat back four enables us to play him BB & JP in the midfield.with FF, Reach either side of Fletcher/Atde in the friont three.

he was v poor no doubt but same could be said about all of them. way I see it is the defence is an absolute mess ,jos needs to stop been a d**k and bring back westwood and Hutchinson and boyd why pay these 3 80k a week between them for doing nothing . we cant keep a clean sheet if this continues we will get dragged towards the bottom 6 come December . im just not convinced by jos at all ,he has got away this season with some strange team selections and tactics , we were so poor yesterday yet he wouldn't fetch onamah who was quality in his last 2 games , he is also still putting Kirby on the bench when Hutchinson and boyd are fully fit mind boggling .

Onomah picked up a knock on international duty.

Westwood is clearly out of his hands.

penney hod a poor game last night but hes just a kid & learning. He doesnt deserve the slaughtering that some are giving him

I agree with that but there's some on here that think he should be offered a massive contract.

Can't have it both ways.

It looked as though he's believing the hype and thinks he's made it. He shouldn't and he hasn't.

Been suspecting this for half a dozen games now

It's good to be confident (& increasingly rare), but I think Sky broadcasting from Penney's a$$h*le, is playing havoc with his ego

no player in there right mind would turn down the  chance of joining a prem club if bornmuff or brighton come sniffing around his agent then I could see him leaving …..one four year contract at a prem club and your set up for life whether you make the grade or not . ……..if we had him  tied to a two year deal we could get summat like the blunts got for brooks but sadly I can see him leaving in January for a fraction of what the blunts got …..best scenario would be sell in jan and then get him loaned back till the end of the season.

Not sure that’s the best scenario?

Some proper bells on this thread.

I've said myself he had a stinker, but importantly he clearly will know that too, and he's already proven over the course of his time in the youth team and his few 1st team appearances that he's still by a huge distance our best left back or wing back.

He'll be back and be back a lot better, too.

Actually thought he just needed more conviction in everything he did - especially crossing - we know he can ping them as good as anyone.

It probably is the best scenario if he doesn't sign a new contract but I didn't notice that particular point made in your post?

His crossing has seemed beyond lazy, almost powder puff, he’s never looked like beating the first man

In possession he’s so relaxed he may as well be asleep, wake up boy! Seems to have little urgency and concentration about him the last few games, almost strikes me as someone who has let the plaudits get to his head

hes achieved absolutely nothing yet, and football can quickly turn to bite you

There was one point on Friday down in the Kop South corner when he put a half arsed tackle in then just momentarily stood and watched the ball trickle away whilst the Boro player was immediately on it for the second ball. I think it’s usually rubbish when players are accused of a lack of effort but he was far too casual on Friday. Be surprised if Jos wont be making that point to him pretty strongly and it would get most players dropped.
