Sheffield, city of students

Recommended Posts

I know a couple of students that came to university in Sheffield and loved the city so stayed on after their studies were finished. Both are season ticket holders with their kids so It is an opportunity to grow the support base.

Unfortunately I feel the asian students ( of which there are thousands ) will not be interested in anything other than Premier league.

Anyone working or shopping in Sheffield at the moment can’t help but notice the amount of students there is in our city. With more and more student accommodation being built all the time it’s about time Wednesday tapped into this market. Our current price for a student to watch a game at Hillsboro is £33 compared to £17 at the stain . Come on Mr Chansiri let’s get their bums on our seats not on the red and white ones

Sums up perfectly why we have no POTD supporters anymore .

Especially as lots of students are from China and South East Asia. Its not rocket science Katrien. The South East Asia connection could fill our stadium cos the students are well off big time. :CEO:

I run a removals company ,and move a lot of students in the summer. Talking to the Chinese ones , a lot of them are sponsored by the chinese government to come and learn English here ,and have quite generous allowances while they are here. These are exactly the type of students we should be tapping into.

There's half a million sheffielders that need tapping in to, not the here today gone tomorrow mob

A large proportion of students stay and settle here after they have finished their studies.

I work at the University and on the whole, students are more interested in United.

I think it's partly because Sheffield United are much closer in terms of distance, and partly because United make WAY more effort to engage with the University.

United essentially offer tickets to every game, they are always at the Union and it's £10 (from memory) - Wednesday offer tickets to 'select games' (for £15) and they are often not available from one week to the next.  (Wednesday will pop up out of nowhere and offer tickets to SWFC v Cardiff on a Tuesday night).  Also, it was easier to justify the higher cost when we were a league above, but where is the extra value now?  You're asking them to pay £5 more and pay for a tram / bus etc.

Students with no affiliation or connection to Sheffield normally pick United - Wednesday need to step it up.

I personally think the Club should take it a step further - student tickets on the door every week (OK, excl United etc) - but keep it simple, students want to turn up on the day, not plan things weeks ahead.

50,000 students in Sheffield - huge potential

Spot on. This info must go to the club, who need to take notice, and Sort this the other pricing issues out. Can’t stand to see so many easy UTD converts when our seats are empty....bus them in, sell pies and pints, shirts, create a Uni zone of seating.....do whatever.

Mascots should be free while I’m at it...

Price the boxes sensibly....seen how many Sheffield companies get involved and take a box at the lane compared to our.....erm..not many.

Etc.....

Correct, another massive mistake from chansiri , a whole generation is potentially being lost . Was quite staggering against West Brom , which was my first game of the season , just how many empty seats there were.

On the flip side though, students are annoying as hell , wouldn’t want to listen to the rabbiting on all match

Yes it is a mistake now, but why pick on just DC?

It has been a mistake by the majority of people running/owning the club year in year out, not just now.

I don’t think I’m picking on him ... I’m sure my opinions mean very little to him . Ticketing is his biggest mistake after carlos though

Whenever this topic comes up someone always moans that we should target 'Sheffielders'.

Why do people think if you target Students then you can't target anyone else too?

My nephew just came home with a letter from school saying they are running a scheme with the blunts for various matches. Next match is v WBA £10 adults, £5 kids.

To put this in perspective my son is 18 months younger. We've done most of the home matches this season. I think Leeds cost me £44 in total and Middlesbrough has cost £39 in total. We are both members so there was the memberships on top too, granted we do sit on the South.

I'm a single dad on a low income. A similar scheme from my son's school from SWFC would have been welcomed with open arms. I know other parents who simply don't go because they are completely priced out.

I'm not sure we are working like this with any other schools but certainly none that I know of.

It's a bit frustrating when there seems to be so many empty seats, these days.

Dunno if this is the scheme, but I read an email sent to all local schools where they are running something where as a school you can sell so many discount tickets....and then your school can claim funding back from the sales of these tickets

Essentially the pigs win by gettin income and bums on seats and the school get some funding back

When working in town my rat run on the way home invariably takes me on West Street and Division Street.

Every single time I make this journey a Chinese/Far East student walks in the road. They have the road sense of badgers with sunglasses on.

They just walk out in front of cars, then have the temerity to stare at the drivers, as if to query why a car is on the actual road.

Don’t know what they do at Uni, but it certainly isn’t road safety.

Because Sheffielders are being ripped off, surely they should come first?
