I’ve bulled him up on many a post over the last couple of years, because all the ingredients that make a top striker are there to see.  There is a but though and that’s because at times his body language betrays what appears to be indifference when the goings tough.  No doubt he’s got the potential to go higher, but has he got the heart and application to do it? Despite a couple of invaluable goals today, he’s still something of an enigma for me.

Interesting post-match comments from Luhukay:

"Lucas Joao was having a difficult game after going on as substitute, not always keeping the ball. But he was different after his first goal and in the end was very important to us.

If he wants to be in the starting line-up, he has to work very hard in training day after day. It's as simple as that."

The guys a massive talent but even more obviously a massive confidence player. He seriously needs to be played more and not just half matches here and there.

If he knew he was going to be the first name on the team sheet then I reckon he’d be unstoppable.

Jos's comments on him are interesting. Said if he wants to start more games has to train harder. He always looks a bit tired and probably because he is a bit lazy in training.

He has had 6 shots on target and scored 5 goals this season. He is clearly a better finisher than Fletch or Atdhe but needs to up work rate and hold ball up better. His style of play will suit playing with Onomah who likes to slide balls into box for players to run onto. Think they will work well together.

But we can’t have favourites

When does Jos say this stuff about other players?

Seems to have a grudge against flair players?

Sod upping his work rate and holding the ball up, get a donkey to do that.  He's there to score goals and given his talent he will do exactly that.

Well done Joao, I've been critical in past (and still remain to be convinced) but hoping for more of the same and greater consistency in future. Really don't see a Premier League player there but will be very happy to be proved wrong.

Which (if any) of our strikers do 'convince' you?

Please answer this question, genuinely interested.

He's played well since he came back and deserved more of a chance after he came on in the Derby last September but he often frustrates. He has so much talent but his decision making can be poor such as having too many touches on the ball (although you can't argue with that today) and not working hard enough for team when we don't have possession like the West Brom game. Today though he has won the game with two great finishes. If only he could work on other aspects of his game then we would have some player.

Baffles me how he was (un)used by our old manager.

Obvios from day one that we had a proper fininsher in our squad and he was cast aside.
