Ibbo48
No idea, but looking at that linesman reminds me of the days when match officials all looked like retired schoolteachers or bank managers. Probably one for Sheffield History site , Neil ? Edited April 19, 2018 by Ibbo48 Extra text

torryowl
educated guess ....judging by the bare pitch what looks like a decent crowd in i'd go for 1927-28 , the last match in the great escape season .

fredmciverslovechild
I've seen that pic before and torryowl is absolutely right. It is from the last match of the 1927/28 season when we beat Villa 2-0 to avoid relegation and complete The Great Escape. We then went on to win the league the next two seasons. I remember the caption said that the Villa player on the right standing just outside the area is Billy Walker who was Wednesday manager when we won the cup seven years later.

SimonJ
Is the Wednesday player in the foreground doing the dab? Didn't realise we were so far ahead of the times even then........

Mr. Tom
Dunno, when did the rule come in that wingers couldn't use a bow and arrow? Sometime before that. Edited April 19, 2018 by Mr. Tom
PopePiusX
I'm a bit worried about the linesman's posture. Did he forget his scythe and hood?

Davetherave
Looks like the ref, with hands on hips has been there for the duration ... I bet GPS on his boots wouldn't show much movement. Edited April 19, 2018 by Davetherave

Musn't Grumble
There is only one player who appears to be actually moving. The picture looks like a Subbuteo reconstruction.

And even he's just doing a flamboyant lunge under the watchful eye of linesman Mr G Reaper (Ashby de la Zouch)
