Nonsense Odd bunch. Like how he washes over the FACup semi final, the biggest game of his United career. Did he not understand the pashun and Sheffield rivalry then? Scruffy oddball. I remember people saying the same about Carlos when people such as myself aired their concerns about him not understanding the passion and importance of the Sheffield Derby games, just remind me again how that played out ? scilly owl
Joss will be fine. Someone will have said to him “listen Joss, Carlos underestimated this game and it was the beginning of the end for him, don’t go making the same mistake “
Saxondale
Can’t stand the bloke, if ever he was on TV he would just keep talking at a hundred miles an hour and you had to pick bits out that were relevant because he was just constantly talking without coming up for air. You do realise Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin have only EVER played each other 4 (four) times, all in the 2nd division. Theres no real history of any matches between those two clubs, so don’t see how there can be any real rivalry. Flares, flags everywhere, crowd bouncing. No way will Jos be overawed. Some condescending Statton ish posts on here. The Sheffield derby isn't a big game outside the city. That's why both clubs tend to be called 'Sheffield'. Even in football circles. Non football fans don't even know we have two clubs, in many cases. Manager can't do owt anyway. First team all crocked. Can only stand on touchline pointing. Bullen will probably decide on sub's as he knows the players best.
OxonOwl
Does Bassett know the derbies Jos has been involved with? Just as much as Jos knows the Steel city derby. From the way Jos talks I think he'll be prepared.
handworth52
he has been involved in the berlin derby 75000 there ,and did you hear the cologne supppoters when they came to London for arsenal game earlier in season ,so he is very used to loud noise in grounds ,the only thing what matters is jos taking no notice of crap what carlos will have told him and do his own thing , and ship out as many of the inept players we can ,

Different countries during the cold war. Jos won't be overawed. He's managed monchengladbach v Cologne. Another big derby. Pretty sure 30,000 won't faze him. We're playing against 11 footballers, not the crowd. Maybe that's what Carlos was trying to say. If a Bramall Lane crowd bothers us, god help us if we ever get to the Prem. Mr. Chow
I dont think Jos will big the opposition more than his actual squad like CC did ever press conference. I believe CC didn't motivate the correctly for such a massive game.
Freshfish
All a bit parochial when it comes to the idea that Jos won’t understand the intensity. Very difficult baptism because of so many reasons but the idea he won’t ‘understand ‘ the rivalry and intensity is claptrap.
debram
Its not Jos that worries me its whether our players will bottle it Friday, brunts will certainly be more than ready for the battle
Bluesteel
Carlos’ style was to control possession, keep the ball even if it meant passing sideways to steadily move up the pitch. In theory that makes sense but unless you have players who are miles better than anyone else you are going to struggle if another team doesn’t let you do it. Not just United but any team that harried and had players willing to run through our lines in the absence of Hutchinson gave us a real headache. Brooks and Clarke did just that and it was too easy for them. Hopefully Jos will have watched the previous game and at the very least will make us harder to cut through. If you do that as a means of taking the sting out rather than trying to just keep the ball when off form then anything can happen.

In a round about way I think that was the point he was making. Almost as if it was underestimated due to there being bigger derbies elsewhere. IMO it’s less about the crowd or atmosphere, but understanding the type of game on the pitch which CC didn’t seem to have them ready for at all. pgmetcalf
Every team has a derby and nearly fan of a team will say theirs is the biggest. It’s all crap - just people trying to hype up everything. Sick of it
