and if they don't sell Gibson, they have the wonderful world of parachute payments, its a joke

We had a golden chance last year but got outdone by what thought was an average Huddersfield side.

That opportunity will not come around again imo.

This season will much harder and if we make the play offs we have another go.

I think people have a right to be annoyed that we haven't signed a decent CB when it's been obvious we've needed one since the beginning of last season and in that time we signed Fox and Urby that were poor and unbelievably poor signings, Rhodes and Winnal when we already had 5 strikers, Jones when we already had too many CM etc etc

im not surprised one bit that people are a bit worried so close to the start to the season because everyone is desperate to get off to a solid start for a change

It's £30M when you add on Braithwaite who they signed for £9M a few weeks ago

Its almost 45 million when you add on Howson, Randolph and Christie who they have also signed this summer.

Bloody parachute payments,,seeing a fellow Championship club spend money like that when we seem to be struggling to bring in a new CB is slightly annoying.

Agree, they can afford to take a punt on a young player at £7m where as most of the league would see £7m as their entire transfer budget, if not much less.

I can see the thinking behind that, but that's what good centre backs cost, and clubs know that. We might of course, manage to get ourselves a bargain by taking this stance, but if we again miss out because of it, we'll have shot ourselves in the foot. Sure, Mulgrew or Keogh, gives us a bit of insurance, but they obviously don't match what we are looking for. Definitely think it's a bit of posturing on our part. Interesting

Who do you consider the good centerbacks that cost that much? Are there no others in world football that are not at that price point?

I mean curtis Davies didn't cost that much nor Pontus Janson they are pretty good centerbacks. One of West Hams owners (Sullavwn or Gold) was on radio other day saying we'd have liked Hernandez in a few weeks back but his price was 33% higher back then, sometimes you have to wait.

We had the same thing when we were promoted. We didn't have parachute payments.  Gibson said we wouldn't break FFP when everyone said we would when we signed Rhodes, downing ect. He was proves to be correct.

We have also sold over 20m + on fringe players, Espinosa 4th choice cb, Husband 3rd choice left back, Stuani a bit part player, Rhodes to you, Fischer who hardly started a game.

We still need at least a winger and a cb and maybe a full back also.  Or 2 Centre backs if Gibson goes, going by WBA managers comments today, he won't be going unless a top 6 side comes in for him and we get 25m+.  Sounds coming out the club back this up.  He is willing to stay unless a top six side come in for him.

Aston Villa are making a strong move for Nurnberg playmaker Abdelhamid Sabiri.

Premier League newcomers Huddersfield are keen on continuing their summer transfer spending by signing the 20-year-old midfielder

But Steve Bruce is set to rival any potential bid after the youngster scored an impressive 17 goals in 30 games last season.

Are the Boro fans expecting to go straight back up this season? Im impressed with the signings you have made even though they have cost a lot of money. You have the best squad imo in the Championship.

what's to stop us being that "average" side that Huddersfield were and to some extent us the year before - therefore the opportunity will arise again

Gibson said he made mistakes last year and "wants to smash the league" so yes.  He said we lacked pace and penetration and would address this.

We have a good core group of players who have been there and done it.

Dimi, Ayala, Gibson, Friend, Clayton, Leadbitter, Forshaw all played over 30 games in the promotion season.  Defensively we were sound last year and had the best goals against in the top 5 leagues the promotion season.  Last year we lacked creativity and attacking intent.  We know how hard this league is but I expect we will be there or there abouts.
