Morning owls chums!  Great OMDT Pauli.

Sending you this from rainy Sydney where I am stationed this week.  For the evening games it's better than Singapore as 13 hours ahead so can listen on player (12.5 hours ahead!) tmw morning before work.

Got a good feeling about this one.  Good opp to play CM and AA from the start, see what they can do.

UTMO!!

TODAY’S OPPOSITES

The town of Blackburn was founded in 10 million BC by a caveman, but he and his wives left behind no other evidence of their habitation than a Styrofoam cup with a tab end in it.

More recently in 1832 the Government decided to section off an area  for industrial activities. Hundreds of cotton mills were built or flown in, some having to be stacked on top of one another, due to lack of space. Unfortunately in the last fifty years or so, the demand for cotton has fallen as Kappa tracksuits started to be produced from crude oil by-products.

Blackburn residents do not believe in the physics of planet earth as we know it. They simply believe that it is a small flat island floating through space. This is why no citizen of Blackburn has ever travelled beyond the limits of the town boundary for fear that they may fall off. This theory has existed since the very dawn of time and has been embellished by the local educational establishments, instilling those beliefs in the townsfolk from birth onwards. There have been unconfirmed reports of the townspeople taking it upon themselves to foolishly attempt the journey to the unknown (a.k.a. bus into Darwen) although none have made it so far.

Several large companies have been in talks with Blackburn Council regarding the purchase of the town. German supermarket giant Lidl is one of those bidders. If successful, they plan to evacuate all residents to a specially constructed shelter beneath the town. Blackburn will then be transformed into one giant Lidl store, with aisles the size of cruise ships. The cheese counter alone will be bigger than the deck of an aircraft carrier with a selection of more than 25,000 cheeses. The Bakery section will stretch for six miles with baguettes the size of a single decker bus.....fully loaded with Peppereperporoni.

They also have a football team which is how we come to playing them today.

MATCHDAY THINGS

Official Matchday Pie: A nice salad and two slices of wholewheat bread.

Official Matchday Drink: 5 litre keg of Hobgoblin. Please drink responsibly.

Official Matchday Song: “I Got The…” by Labi Siffre…

Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper and defender Tom Lees will be assessed ahead of the visit of Blackburn. Steven Fletcher could feature after the striker served the last of a three-game ban in Friday's win over Birmingham.

Blackburn are without on-loan Owls striker Lucas Joao, who is ineligible to play against his parent club. Rovers are without a number of defenders with Tommie Hoban (shoulder) and Gordon Greer (hip) injured, while Darragh Lenihan (illness) is a doubt.

    ▪    The Owls have won four and drawn three of their last eight league meetings against Blackburn.

    ▪    Rovers haven't kept a clean sheet against Wednesday in the Championship since December 2013 (six meetings since then).

    ▪    Striker Jordan Rhodes scored 83 goals in 159 league games for Blackburn between 2012 and 2016 - though he is yet to score against them in two appearances since he departed in January last year.

    ▪    Blackburn haven't scored more than twice in any of their last 40 away league games since a 3-0 win over Leeds in April 2015.

KING CARLOS’ PEARLS OF WISDOM

“We don’t think that just because we won against the Birmingham, everything was perfect. Just the same that when we lose, not everything is bad. There are positive things when we lose and negative things when we win. For sure, there are more positives from Friday than negatives but all the time there are things to correct, improve and do better. Of this I am absolutely certain. This is why we are training all the time to prepare the games, to improve the team and to try to correct the mistakes and accuse a fish of heresy. But of course after the game we are more positive and have more confidence than when we started, absolutely sure. When we win two games in a row, confidence is more high. Confidence is very important to a player and to a team but we must all the time keep working and be 100% focused to try to improve, even when we are with a good win like last time.

We are in a good place. We have a good win, we are sixth in the table, we have another clean sheet – our 13th of the season – and we scored three goals. We are higher in the table with more points, so I am happy. We started and finished this game very well. Birmingham had some good spells because this is normal. If a side from League One or League Two comes to Hillsborough, they will have chances – this is football. But we defended very well, we attacked very well and so I am very happy. The new players did very well, they showed good signals but they are only starting at Sheffield Wednesday. So they will get better as individuals for us and I am happy with the options that we have. If one striker drops out, another one comes in, it is important to have that kind of strength.”

I had read that twice to make sure that is what my eyes had seen. Thankfully my coffee cup is empty (never for long in my house) so it didn't get sprayed across my monitors, which would have meant more expense for @pauli, who by my estimation owes me for 17 new monitors already, due to his hillarious OMT.

As per pauli, awesome thread and some great inside knowledge from Blackburn Council. I might have a reason for going back next season, as I won't be going for the football!

An absorbing thread, as always, Pauli. Imagine the chicken section in the new Lidl if the Venky's get involved!

I think that this could be a scrappy game today depending on how Blackburn set up, but would love to see us wallop them!

Wow Pauli there's some really surreal stuff going on in your head, but a great pleasure to read it.

Cant believe quite how much I am looking forward to a cold Tuesday night match against Blsckburn, but I feel we moved from drab efficiency to efficient fluency on Friday.

4-1 tonight.
