Abdi was the reason we got a grip of the game after 15 mins...kept the ball moving and brought everyone into the game...right decision to take him off after we started pushing forward...can't fault his display

"Got a grip of the game"?

It was a very poor Wigan side, at home. The 451 or whatever it was, was negative and unnecessary.

He didn't have a bad game, he just didn't do anything.

Apologies but in my view, somebody who doesn't do anything - does have a bad game... surely?

It would seem that as Abdi was marketed as the 'Professor' and with a decent price tag, that he will often be labelled negatively.

However, I think there's two types of supporter in that, one can see the kind of player that Lopez was last season and see it early on enough, to then see it expand as the season went on. Then there's the type who just didn't see the simple brilliance of Lopez and the key attributes he brought to the team and is likely to see the same about Abdi for the foreseeable.

I'm glad to say, that I fall within the former.

I see the comparison with Lopez.

But IMO he doesn't do much wrong, but he doesn't do much. Like Lopez.

By contrast, Lee and Bannan do make the odd stray pass, but it's because they are trying to prise open a defence with a key pass.

Jones is behind abdi. Lee and Bannan did well today but are not undroppable. Fletcher needs to start everytime. When we hit him more direct in the second half we looked very good.

Thought Lee and bannan were both dropable again after today

Those kind of players are needed along with the ones who take more risks.

Not saying he's as good as Xavi but that's the nearest comparison I can think of. Just keeps things ticking over.

Bannan and Lee already 'keep things ticking over' just fine. It's not where we're lacking. For Abdi to get in the side regularly he needs to work nearly as hard as them and score and create more goals. Lee scored 6 I think last season? Not bad for someone who loses his head in the box

It's a slight concern that we spent £6m on Abdi and Jones when it's looking like Lee and Bannan are more effective (ok Jones hasn't had enough time yet)

As the thing is I highly doubt Abdi or Jones would have signed for us if they thought they'd be bench players this season, but that's where I would put them at the moment

Reach simply has to be one of the wide players and i would have Fletcher and Hooper up front, which means FF has to be the other wide player.

Leaving Abdi, Jones, Lee & Bannan fighting it out for two places

I'll take it.  This squad looked like absolute shuffle against another very poo poo side, Lids.

Take nothing for granted.

I expect to see Abdi start on the bench. Not being funny but I haven't seen anything in his game yet that has impressed me. Still not sure our formation suits him.

Jones will start in CM on Tuesday night I reckon. He will add balance to our midfield and a bit of nouse.

Formation was utterly wrong today

Abdi gets the ball, what's he going to do with it? All 5 of our midfielders were occupying 15 yards of space in the middle, said it too many times now but got to get some width and wingers who want to run in behind, especially at home

Fear Abdi might be one ( along with Fletcher ) who despite being one of the best players in the league, might suffer a bit with the style we're trying to play

Have to agree with you. I'm not sure it's the formation though. Wallace is the biggest issue. He is never wide always coming way to narrow and today made it hard for Palmer when he needed an out and several times Bannan and Abdi looked for him and he wasn't there.
