Hi all and good vibes to everybody hope you and all your family and friends are all good , I’ve been very open about my struggles with depression and anxiety and with the news of a new wave of covid hitting us I just want to reach out to anybody who might be struggling at this time with any issues you might be having, times might be hard and times might be hard ahead but my inbox is open if anybody needs a chat about anything no matter how big or little the chat is it is better to talk than to keep it bottled up like I used to do ….

stay safe everyone and good vibes to you all and your loved ones ..WAWAW

Cheers Simon. One in eight men have depression or anxiety. Men are three times more likely to commit suicide than women. Only 36% of GP referrals to mental health services are for men.
Men do continue to bottle things up but the good news is it’s getting better and people want to help! Share your problems lads. It’s not weak to ask for help!

Whatever peoples views are on Covid/restrictions, one thing is certain and that's the negative effect it has on peoples mental health. Advice i would give to anyone is to turn off terrestrial TV, turn down the radio and take long breaks from social media. Watch a film, go to the gym, pub, go see friends or family and socialise.

totally agree , watching the garbage and continual rules on the news can drive u crackers , a lot of us felt very down last year ,i was lucky i was able to work but i found last xmas/new year in yet another lockdown hard as there was nowhere to go and nothing open and with it been winter outdoors was not really an option . it was get up walk the dog day over quite pathetic . im quite sure the uk public will not stand for this again we have simply had enough . professor jenny harries is already telling us to not have fun over xmas ,

None of the previous covid lockdowns bothered me much apart from the one after Christmas last year/early this year..

I'm normally ok and don't have depression but the mixture of living in a rural area,  being locked down, short days and cold weather along with all the fisheries being shut nearly did for me. I could feel myself losing my grip on my normal self. I'm really nit looking forward to a repeat. Hopefully it won't happen.

Bless you mate. I’m originally from your neck of the woods so know the area well. I expect many of the posters on this site can relate to the battles you’ve gone through. I reckon you’re a very fortunate individual if you can through a lifetime without experiencing some mental challenges along the way.

Interestingly I was given some advice from a poster on this site about 5 years ago when I was struggling and I can hand on heart say his suggestions have been a huge benefit to me. Who’d have thought a fan’s forum could be useful in that way? Anyway if you need a sympathetic ear just pm me and I’d be happy to offer support. Take care mate.

Love stuff like this whilst many will suffer in silence it’s still nice to hear people are not on their own and if only one person takes you up on this buddy it’s one more not suffering alone

That's good advice and what I did last year when I was furloughed for a couple of months covid was in news everywhere and it was keeping me awake at night thinking about it all time, I decided to log off Facebook and Twitter, stop watching all news channels and any news that came on radio.

Spent my time doing gardening and going on long walks, when relaxing I listened to downloaded music whilst reading.

Even now I rarely watch any news on TV and news on social media is mostly scaremongering sensationalized fake rubbish.

6 years ago to the day I lost my wife of 39 hours to a very aggressive cancer (we got married in Weston Park 2 days before she died). Diagnosed stage 4, and 4 months later gone. Aged 49. The first thing I did the very next day was to arrange bereavement counselling. It was honestly one of the best decisions I could have made.

Did I want to do it? fizz no, but I had to. I knew once I'd made the decision and arranged it that there was no turning back. I cried rivers. My world was upside down, inside out and my head was spinning like a washing machine. But that meeting made me think, made me realise.....I'm not alone. People understand, and care. And can help.

So reach out if you are in need. It's okay to feel like you are doing. Don't be ashamed. You will get through it.

In 12 days time, my first child will be two years old. That's how these stories can end if you seek the support you need.

Bless you mate.

With regards to poor mental health relating to lockdowns/restrictions (OP) I'm not sure what the overwhelming opinion of worldwide science and health professionals is.

Also I don't want to change the subject of the thread and send it down a dark path but something with a previous fatality rate of 0.3% that has been greatly improved with the introduction of a vaccine doesn't seem "Extremely dangerous" to me. I say that though with the greatest respect to anyone who who has lost anyone because of it.

The whole thing has probably affected people's mental health more than they realise or care to admit, I know that anticipating more/future restrictions has a continuing negative impact on my mind.

I try to be positive , I like a drink but do not drink  Monday ,Tuesday or wednesday  , Just to  stay sober for 3 days and show i am not dependant on booze ,Some mates drink every day , I have 5 betting accounts and also money i keep in a wallet just for gambling , I go sometimes a week without gambling unless a horse i have on my tracker or team i fancy is better than the odds . I have a mate backs every day and  he is clueless .His mates as well as myself have asked him to get help . Do people drink heavy ,Or gamble heavy through boredom ?.  If you have a friend ,If you are a true friend they are drinking too much or gambling ,Reach out do all the help you can . In my lifetime i have had several friends who have ended their lives , Not a week goes by when they come into my thoughts , It might not seem manly but if you can see your mate not his usual self talk to them ask them  if they have a problem , We only get one life its precious .
