Pleat had a go for Beckham but got laughed at Le Tissier rumours were quite common. Think we tried for Trevor Sinclair when he was at Blackpool, and Collymore when he was at Southend. No, Alan Shearer had just won the golden boot at Euro 96 and signed for Newcastle for a transfer record fee of £15m and it was rumoured Lombardo was asking for similar wages to what Shearer was on.
