But we needed to let monk bring his own players in. Get rid of the bad eggs. Get his own back room staff. Yes that worked well

A number of posters on here pointed out Monk should never have been allowed to bring any players in. His choices in January showed that. He’s just dug us deeper into our hole.

It’s been evident so far this season we signed a bunch of league 1 players

What on earth was the remit with recruitment? As long as they’re passionate bring them in, regardless of ability?

dunkley ,brown, windass, paterson, kachunga, marriott are all reasonably experienced championship players so they should be able to perform at that level ......that they arnt doing so says to me they were thrown together in  hope rather than can we add them to what we already have  and form a decent team . .........we now have a squad made up of players signed by 5 or 6 different managers so its no wonder it all seems a bit piecemeal ....lets hope pulis is here for the long ride and build a squad he wants .

OK - heres who left us this summer. Take the list and fill in the names of those who signed who improved our squad.

Morgan Fox -

Kieran Lee -

Sam Hutchinson -

Sam Winnall -

Atdhe Nuhiu -

Fernando Forestieri -

Steven Fletcher -

its a pointless comparison.

Most of those players had to go for a combination of financial, history of injuries, underperformance, attitude reasons.

The squad was desperate to be freshened up. We’ll see if the signings work out. I know it doesn’t look great but still early days.

Keeping Fox and Fletcher ( 2 years and 1 year deals) would have made sense but we simply couldn’t afford them up against someone like Stoke with parachute payments.

Might have kept Nuhiu or Winnall at a push.

Other than that, good riddance to the rest, all ageing has beens.

He had a limited budget and said it on more than one occasion.

Will Chansiri be able to losen the purse strings in January?

I dont blame Monk too much on our squad being poor.

It is more down to a modest budget and the points deduction putting off players coming.

I wonder though if Pulis coming in indicates they is more room for manoeuvre in the transfer window.

Maybe adding 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but we were rumoured to be chasing zohore for a long time. Then on deadline day marriott comes in and zohore goes to Millwall. Monk himself reported that he tried to sign Jackson irvine, but he turned it down and we loan in izzy brown - an injury prone midfielder who plays a very different role to Irvine. The Huddersfield coach comes in and days later we sign two ex hudds players. Absolute circus of a recruitment strategy is putting it nicely

I think we had a very limited budget and used that to buy Patterson and Windass.

Other  than that the rest of the signings/loans look like bargain bucket signings, either players injured or coming back from injury where we will only paying part of the wages while they get back to fitness or the likes of Katchunga who couldn't get a club so will have been cheap.

I don't think any of the players we recruited had any other suitors who we had to compete with.

Morgan Fox - Haven't replaced.

Kieran Lee -  Brown but not quite the same.

Sam Hutchinson -  Luongo was already here. Miles better footballer.

Sam Winnall - Windass

Atdhe Nuhiu - Haven't replaced.

Fernando Forestieri -  You can't replace without spending big money which we weren't able to.

Steven Fletcher - Haven't replaced.

The left back situation is scandalous. Fox was our only left-back for about 2 years and yet we never signed anyone else. We resorted to playing Palmer there a number of times last season. Now we've let Fox go and still haven't signed anyone.

Monk must have been thinking 3 at the back with no plan B would be fine.

Palmer actually played well at left back

Whoever it was that decided we should sign Dunkley wants locking up!

apparently pte ious managers liked him even Bruce allegedly. And we are operating in bargain basement as under Milan where we signed players with history of serious injuries or even Hutch who had retired!

Fact is, Chansiri's skint and we need latest accounts to know FFP situation.

Five transfer windows won't get us out of this mess unless we can raise much more money.

A share offer to fans  - favoured by a few clubs post Covid -  would bypass both above barriers.

And - if voting ones - shareholdrrs would force some sanity into club management.

Luongo replaced Hutchinson , on the treatment table ? To be fair to Hutch he was fit for his last 2 seasons here .
